DRIVER OVERRAN STACK BUFFER Blue Screen Error (Fixed)

Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors are particularly annoying because they make your computer practically unusable.

One such irritating BSOD is the “DRIVER OVERRAN STACK BUFFER” error. You can get this error at startup, while playing games, or at other random times.

In this post, we will take a look at different ways to solve this issue. So, let’s begin.

Error Message Similar to DRIVER OVERRAN STACK BUFFER

Sometimes, the error message that flashes on your screen is similar, but not same to same word by word, to the “DRIVER OVERRAN STACK BUFFER” error.

Here are some common variations:

  • Driver overran stack buffer overclock – Often users choose to overclock their computers to obtain the maximum possible performance. But the thing with overclocking is that it can lead to different issues, including this one.
  • Driver overran stack buffer on startup – This message typically appears when Windows loads.
  • Driver overran stack buffer while installing Windows 10 – According to many users, this issue crops up during installation of Windows 10 and generally points to some hardware problem.
  • Driver_overran_stack_buffer ntoskrnl.exe, asustp.sys, tcpip.sys, nvlddmkm.sys, ntfs.sys, fltmgr.sys, win32k.sys, netwsw00.sys, halmacpi.dll, hal.dll – Compared to other error messages, this type of error is easier to resolve as the name of the file causing the issue is listed. Once the culprit file is known, you can research the Internet and find out how to get rid of the issue.
  • Driver overran stack buffer – Windows 10 blue screen – When this BSOD error occurs, your computer will instantly crash and reboot. You can solve the error using the solutions given in this post.
  • Driver overran stack buffer crash – Just like the previous error, this one too causes your computer to crash and reboot.

Solution 1 – Install Windows Updates

Sometimes hardware issues cause BSOD errors and sometimes software-related issues. Before you try anything else to fix the said error, we recommend you install the newest Windows updates.

Here are the steps to follow:

  • Press Windows Key + I to launch Settings app
  • Now go to Update & security and click Check for updates

Windows will now check if any new updates are available. In case it finds new updates, it will install them automatically.

Solution 2 – Install the newest drivers

Having outdated drivers is like asking for trouble. If one or more drivers are outdated, you can experience all kinds of issues, including blue screen of death errors like this one.

Here are the steps you need to follow to update drivers via Device Manager.

  • Press Windows key + X and click Device Manager in the list
  • In the Device Manager window, locate the driver that requires an update. Next, right-click this driver and select Update driver
  • Click the first option in the Update Drivers window, which is Search automatically for updated driver software
  • If more than one driver requires an update, repeat the first four steps for each one

While using Device Manager to update drivers is a fairly simple process, it may not be the best or you and sometimes the Device Manager fails to download the newest driver.

We recommend you update drivers using a reliable, advanced driver update tool

Automatic driver update tools offer many benefits, the most important ones being:

  • You can update device drivers automatically
  • The software scans and updates all outdated or missing drivers at one go
  • The tool picks the right drivers for your device and operating system, so you won’t have to worry about installing an incorrect driver by mistake
  • Automatic driver updates are 100% safe

Click here to Install and launch the app

Step 2
Scan all devices

Step 3
Install or update drivers automatically

Solution 3 – Run SFC scan

Sometimes a corrupt file can lead to this error. In such cases, running the SFC scan can help. When you run this scan, Windows checks if there are any corrupt system files, and if it finds them, it will automatically repair them.

Here are the steps to follow:

  • Right-click Start menu, and pick command prompt with administrative rights
  • In the command prompt window, type the following command and then press the Enter key: sfc/scannow
  • This process might take some time, so wait until it is done
  • Next exit the Command Prompt window and reboot Windows

Solution 4 – Run BSOD Troubleshooter

Did you know that Windows 10 has a troubleshooting tool that can help you fix several errors including the titled one?

Here are the steps to run the inbuilt Windows 10 troubleshooter program:

  • Press Windows Key + I to launch Settings app
  • Click Update & Security
  • Click Troubleshoot
  • Now choose BSOD in the pane that’s on the right-hand side and then click the Run the troubleshooter button
  • Now follow onscreen instructions to complete the process

Solution 5 – Check your hard drive

If the error persists, you should check if your hard drive is in good shape. Sometimes, BSOD errors occur when one or more files on the hard drive are corrupted. To check the hard drive, run the chkdsk command.

Here are the steps to follow:

  • Restart Windows while holding Shift key to access Advanced Setup
  • Select Troubleshoot and then select Advanced Options
  • Choose Command Prompt
  • In the Command Prompt window, type these commands and press Enter after each one of them:
    • bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
    • bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    • bootrec.exe /fixboot
  • As per many users, it is better to run some additional commands. However, to execute these commands, you must know driver letters for your hard drive partitions. So type the following commands in the Command Prompt window (remember to use the correct drive letters)
    • chkdsk /r c:
    • chkdsk /r d:
  • Reboot windows

Solution 6 – Uninstall any problematic software

Sometimes third-party software leads to BSOD errors. Many users have said that in their case the cause of this issue was Daemon Tools. Are you also using this application? If yes, we recommend you uninstall it and see if this solves the problem

Additionally, some users have said that an Internet Explorer Plug-in, called Rapport, can also lead to this BSOD. So in case you have this plugin installed, remove it and check if that fixes the issue.

Antivirus tool can also lead such BSOD errors. So you can try to temporarily disable your antivirus software. Before you do that, you might want to disconnect from the internet.

In case you find that temporarily disabling the antivirus software fixes the problem, you should contact the antivirus manufacturer and ask for a fix. Alternately, you can use any other reliable antivirus tool.

Keyboard Not Working On Windows 10 (Solved)

Keyboard Not Working On Windows 10 (Solved)

Great as Windows 10 is as an operating system, many users have complained of encountering a number of issues after upgrading to it. One such issue is “keyboard not working on Windows 10.” This usually occurs after installation of the KB4074588 update

Are you also facing this issue?

If yes, there’s nothing to worry about. While an irritating error, it’s hardly a tough nut to crack.

In this post, I have listed 4 solutions for this problem. Let’s start.

Solution 1 – Check the USB port

At times, a USB port stops functioning after you perform an OS upgrade. Typically, the cause is related to some driver problem.

So how can you check if the USB port is fine?

That’s simple. Unplug your keyboard and plug it in into a different slot. Is it working fine now? If yes, this means something is wrong with the earlier USB port. In that case you should straightaway go to Solution 4. Otherwise, check out the next solution.

Solution 2 – Adjust Keyboard settings

Sometimes when Filter Keys — a special setting that lets you decide how Windows is going to deal with accidentally repeated keystrokes — is turned on, the titled issue can crop up.

Here are the steps to check whether Filter Keys are enabled, and if yes, how to disable them.

  • Click Action Center (its icon in there in lower right hand corner) on the PC desktop
  • Click All settings
  • Now click Ease of Access
  • Click Keyboard
  • Make sure Filter keys is set as OFF (Otherwise, use the slider button to turn it OFF)
  • Close the Window

Solution 3 – Reinstall drivers for your Keyboard

Problems with your keyboard drivers can cause the keyboard to stop working. For instance in case of faulty keyboard drivers, this issue can occur repeatedly.

  • Type device manager in the Start Search box and click Device Manager in the results
  • In the Device Manager window, expand Keyboards
  • Now right-click Standard PS/2 Keyboard and click Uninstall
  • Confirm Device Uninstall pop-up will appear on your screen. Simply click OK
  • Reboot Windows

If the issue still persists, chances are your keyboard drivers are old, not faulty. You will have to try the steps in the next solution.

Solution 4 – Install the latest keyboard and USB driver

There are two ways to update your keyboard and USB driver – manually and automatically.

I’ve listed both the methods. Pick one that sounds more convenient to you.

Steps to update keyboard and USB driver manually

  • Press Windows logo key + R together to bring up the Run command
  • In Run command, type devmgmt.msc and click OK
  • In the Device Manager, expand Keyboards and now right-click Standard PS/2 Keyboard and click update driver
  • In the next window, select Search automatically for updated driver software.

Windows will search the internet to find a driver update and install it. If it does not find a driver update, you have to manually download the mouse driver and install it.

  • Open Internet browser
  • Go to the Mouse manufacturer website
  • Go to the Download section and select your product
  • Download the keyboard and USB driver compatible with your Windows type (If you use 32-bit, use a driver for 32-bit Windows 10. If you use 64-bit, download a driver that’s meant for 64-bit Windows 10) and save the file on the desktop
  • Double-click on the driver setup file to install the driver
  • Restart your computer

Steps to update keyboard and USB driver automatically

Automatic driver update tools offer many benefits, the most important ones being:

  • You can update device drivers automatically
  • The software scans and updates all outdated or missing drivers at one go
  • The tool picks the right drivers for your device and operating system, so you won’t have to worry about installing an incorrect driver by mistake
  • Automatic driver updates are 100% safe

Driver Updater is one of the best driver update tools out there. Outbyte Driver Updater will give you access to a database of over 1 million drivers. It will regularly scan your PC, suggesting new driver versions to install. Driver Updater contains drivers for a variety of Windows devices. With just one click, you can update drivers in your system.
