How to fix common Galaxy Note 4 problems?

By lisak on June 28, 2016

Galaxy Note 4 is a great device, but it too can experience glitches from time to time.

Below are some common problems Galaxy Note 4 users face and their solutions.

Camera Crashes

Occasionally the Galaxy Note 4 camera crashes when launched from the lock screen. If you are experiencing a similar problem with the camera, use the following steps to fix it.

  1. Go to Settings > All > Camera
  2. Tap “Clear Data”
  3. If that doesn’t help, you will be required to delete all camera preferences by tapping on “Clear Cache”

App Problems

If any app installed on the Galaxy Note 4 is causing a problem, the first thing you need to do is update the app in question. If the problem with the app continues, you need to clear the cache by following the steps given below:

  1. Pull down the notification area of the screen and tap on the Settings icon
  2. Go to application settings by tapping on Apps
  3. Tap on the name of the app for which you want to delete Cache
  4. Tap on Clear Cache

If clearing the cache does not solve the app problem, you need to uninstall the app, reboot your Galaxy Note 4 and reinstall the app.

Solving system-wide problems (not specific to any app)

If you are experiencing any problem while using the device that is not specific to any app but system-wide, you need to clear the System Cache. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Press Home, Volume Up, and Home buttons simultaneously
  2. Continue holding the buttons until your Galaxy Note 4 vibrates
  3. Release Power and Home buttons
  4. You should now see the Recovery screen
  5. Use the Volume buttons to navigate and select Wipe Cache Partition
  6. Press the Power button to confirm your selection
  7. Select Reboot System Now
  8. Press the Power button again to confirm selection

Factory Reset

If clearing app cache and system cache does not solve your problem, the only thing you can do is a factory reset. Be careful before resetting your Note 4 to factory fresh settings as you will lose all data in the process. Take a back-up of all important data before you proceed.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Scroll down the screen to User and Backup
  3. Tap on Backup and Reset
  4. If you have made a backup, uncheck the option Backup my data else take a complete backup
  5. Tap Factory Data Reset
  6. If you are prompted to enter a PIN or Password, enter it
  7. Tap Continue
  8. Tap on Delete All
  9. Wait for device to reboot

Factory reset is the last resort to take to solve common Galaxy Note 4 problems. After a factory reset, you will be required to reinstall your apps.

Windows 10 upgrade walk-through for Dell laptops

By lisak on June 20, 2016

If you own a Dell laptop and thinking of upgrading to Windows 10 (it is free to do so), here are few things you need to do before upgrading.

Check your Dell laptop compatibility

Not all Dell laptops are compatible with Windows 10. Hence, the first thing you need to do is check whether your Dell laptop is compatible with Windows 10. Dell has released a list of devices that are compatible with Windows 10. In order to determine whether your laptop model is on the list, follow the steps given below.

  1. Click on the link – Dell Tested systems page
  2. Enter the Service Tag that is located at the bottom of your device
  3. Click on Submit
  4. Just above the listed drivers, you will see a notice that tells whether your system has been tested for Windows 10
  5. If you get a message which says “Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade”, you should refrain from upgrading to Windows 10

Back up your files

Though upgrading to Windows 10 is usually a smooth and straightforward process, you should always backup all critical files before carrying out any upgrade.

Create recovery discs

You have the option to rollback within 30 days to an earlier version of Windows after upgrading to Windows 10. Without creating recovery discs, you will not be able to do so. You can use the Dell Backup and Recovery software to create recovery discs. We would recommend you create a factory restore media. You can use DVD discs, external hard drive or USB flash drive for the purpose. Below are the steps you should follow:

  1. Search for Dell Backup in Apps
  2. Open the Dell Backup and Recovery app
  3. Select Factory Recovery media
  4. Connect the external USB device of your choice and click on it when detected
  5. When the drive is selected, click on Continue
  6. You will see a warning which mentions the operation will take time and cannot be cancelled. Click Yes to continue
  7. You will see a message with licensing agreement. Click Agree and continue
  8. The application starts to create recovery discs. Click OK when the process is completed

Upgrading to Windows 10

  1. Go to the Windows update screen
  2. Check for upgrade link
  3. If you have registered for the free upgrade, you will see Windows 10 upgrade as an option
  4. Click on Get Started
  5. Click Yes when you see the pop-up window with the Microsoft software license terms
  6. In the next window, click start the upgrade now

After the upgrade process starts, the laptop will immediately restart. From that point you need to just wait until the update process is completed
