By lisak on July 16, 2016

The integrated Webcam in Dell laptops sometimes doesn’t work as intended. Below are a few Dell Webcam issues faced by users and quick solutions for these problems.

Download Dell Webcam Drivers

Dell Webcam software is not working

If you are using Windows 8.1 you need to check the camera app and see if it is working. If the camera itself is working, the problem is with the Dell Webcam software. To resolve the issue, you need to uninstall and reinstall Dell Webcam software.

If the above solution does not solve the problem, you need to uninstall and reinstall the Dell Webcam itself from the Device Manager. Below are the steps you need to follow

  1. Press the Windows button + R on the keyboard to open Run
  2. Type devmgmt.msc to open Device Manager
  3. Look for Imaging devices and click > to expand
  4. Right-click on Integrated Webcam and click Uninstall
  5. Click OK
  6. Once the uninstall process is completed, restart the laptop

Dell Webcam does not work with Skype

In the majority of these cases, you will see a dark, blank or black screen when using Skype.  To see if the Webcam is working properly, follow the steps given below

  1. Launch Skype
  2. Click Tools > Options > Video Settings
  3. If you see yourself in the video window, your webcam is working fine

If the above solution does not work, there might be some problem with the Skype Software. Uninstall the Skype application and download the latest version of Skype. Before downloading the software, ensure your system meets the minimum requirements for Skype.

Webcam Not working “Please plug in a supported webcam”

You may get this error if the Webcam Drivers are not installed properly or have become corrupt. To solve this issue, uninstall and reinstall the Webcam Drivers. Here’s how:

  1. Press the Windows button + R on the keyboard to open Run
  2. Type devmgmt.msc to open the Device Manager
  3. Look for Imaging devices and click > to expand
  4. You should see Integrated Webcam listed
  5. Right-click on Integrated Webcam and click on Uninstall
  6. Restart the laptop, and install the latest Dell Webcam Drivers
  7. If you do not see any Webcam listed under Imaging Devices, check Other Devices and see if any Unknown Device is listed
  8. If you see any Unknown Device under Other Devices, it only means the Drivers for Webcam are not installed which is the reason for the error. Go ahead and install the latest Webcam Drivers

By lisak on July 6, 2016

It is important to update Graphics Drivers to get optimum performance from your computer. Often computer users do not update their Graphic Drivers after installing them for the first time, probably because of a lack of knowledge about how to go about it. Below are the steps you need to perform to install the latest Graphic Drivers.

Before updating the Graphics Driver, note down the Display Device provider and the version of the installed Driver.

How to find the Driver version in Windows

  1. Click on the Start button on desktop
  2. Type Device Manager in the search box
  3. Select Device Manager from the list of search results
  4. In the Device Manager window, go to Display Adapters
  5. Double click on it to expand
  6. Right-click on device and select Properties
  7. In the Properties window, click the Driver tab
  8. Note down the details like Driver Provider, Driver Date, and Driver version

If the Driver Date is 1-2 years old, there is a possibility the graphics device manufacturer has released an update.

You can also run a driver update tool, if you want to use the software to automatically update the Drivers for you then you will need to register to receive a license key. If you use a Driver Update Tool such as this then you can disregard the rest of this post as the software will complete the Driver Updates for you and keep them up-to-date in the future.

There are three major graphic chips manufacturers – Intel, AMD and NVIDIA. Each graphics device manufacturer has its own method of updating Graphic Drivers

Updating NVIDIA Drivers

  1. Open your browser and go to the following URL – http://www.geforce.com/drivers
  2. Go to the Manual Search section
  3. Enter information related to graphics device in your computer
  4. Click Search
  5. Download the latest driver from the search results page
  6. Right-click on the downloaded file and select Run as administrator
  7. After the installation completes, reboot the computer

Updating AMD Graphics Drivers

AMD provides an Auto Detect tool that simplifies the process of updating Drivers.

  1. Download the AMD Driver Autodetect tool from the following URL – http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool#
  2. Install the application and run it
  3. The application will detect the graphics device and driver version installed on your computer
  4. If there is any updated driver available, it will prompt you to download it
  5. Download the driver update file and click Install
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions
  7. Reboot the computer

Updating Intel Graphics Drivers

The driver update process for Intel Graphics Drivers is similar to that of AMD. Intel provides the Intel Driver Update utility that checks for the driver version installed on your computer. The utility checks for any driver updates available and downloads them for you.

  1. Download the Intel Driver Update utility from the following URL – http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html
  2. Run the installer
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the application
  4. Launch the application and click Scan
  5. The driver update utility will check for any driver updates available and prompt you to download latest drivers for the graphics device
  6. Download and install the latest Intel graphics drivers
  7. Reboot the computer after installing the latest graphic drivers

If the drivers you require are not available from the manufacturers website, then we would advise you to use a reliable driver update tool to update your Graphics Drivers.

How to fix No Sound issue in Windows 10?

By lisak on July 5, 2016

After an upgrade,  you may have a “no sound” issue with Windows 10, this results in problems playing any audio. Fortunately, updating the audio driver fixes the problem quickly. However, before you update the audio driver, you should run the checks listed below. Sometimes the problem doesn’t lie with the driver and can be dealt with through some minor adjustments such as those set out below.

Check Audio Cables and Volume

  1. Check the headphone and speaker connections in case of wrong jack or loose connections
  2. Check the power and volume levels
  3. Try turning all volume controls up. Some apps and speakers also have their own volume controls, so you need to check all volume controls
  4. Also remember, the speakers won’t work if the headphones are plugged in

If everything seems fine, you need to ensure the sound settings in your computer are OK. Here are the steps to check the sound settings:

Steps to check sound settings

  1. Right-click on the Volume icon in the taskbar
  2. Select Playback devices

You might have multiple playback devices depending on your system configuration. If you have connected speakers to your Windows 10 system and you are looking to use them as default sound output device, here are the changes you need to make in the audio settings

  1. Double-click on Speakers
  2. Click on Properties
  3. Go to Enhancements tab
  4. Check the box Disable all enhancements
  5. Click Apply

Now check for sound. In most cases, this should solve the problem. If it doesn’t, you need to make further changes in the audio settings

  1. Click the Advanced tab
  2. Select higher or lower bitrate (use 24bit/44100 Hz or 24bit/192000Hz – it depends on the device).

If you have an older Realtek or Via chipset, you need to set 16 bits 44.1khz to have a decent sound.

If none of the above solutions have worked to resolve the “No Sound” issue, you must ensure the sound card or processor is working. Follow the steps given below to check the audio device in your Windows 10 system.

Check Device Manager

  1. Click the Start button on your desktop
  2. Type “Device Manager” in the search box
  3. Click “Device Manager” in the menu
  4. In Device Manager dialog box, select your sound card and open it
  5. Select the Driver tab and choose “Update Driver”
  6. If Windows is not able to find an audio driver, check the device manufacturer’s website for the latest audio driver for Windows 10
  7. Download the audio driver and follow the instructions to install the driver
  8. Restart the system

You can also use a driver update tool which will automate the process of updating the Drivers for all your devices.
