By Susan C on June 11, 2019

IPv6 No Internet Access Error Solved

IPv4 is the original Internet addressing system. It uses 32 bits, which means there can be 4.2 billion addresses.

Given the pace at which Internet connections have increased over the years, we’ve nearly exhausted IPv4 addresses.

To combat this problem, a new addressing system was launched called IPv6, which is virtually exhaustible.

Popular websites like Google.com, Youtube.com, Facebook.com have long been using IPv6. Today, many websites and users use IPv6.

At times such users have come across the “IPv6 no network access”.  When this error occurs, you may experience a problem in internet connectivity or may not be able to access specific sites.

If you are also getting this error, this post is just for you.

Here we have discussed 4 solutions that could fix the issue.

Solution One- Reset Winsock catalog and IPv6 on your computer

There is a possibility the IPv6 settings are faulty, and hence the error.

A simple solution to this problem is to reset IPv6. This will take you back to default settings when everything was working fine.

Here are the steps to reset IPv6 settings on your computer.

  • Click Start
  • Type cmd in the search box
  • From the list of results, right-click cmd and click Run as administrator
  • In the User Account control pop-up, click Yes
  • In the command prompt window, type the following commands. After typing each command hit Enter on keyboard. Wait for the command operation to complete. Then type next command in the line.
  • netsh winsock reset catalog
  • netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

After successful execution of both commands, close the command prompt window.

Check whether you are still getting the error or not.

If the issue persists, move to the next solution.

Solution Two- Release and renew your IP

There is a possibility your device was not allocated IP address properly.

In that case, releasing and renewing the IP address could resolve the issue.

Here are the steps to follow.

  • Press Windows logo key and R together to launch the Run command
  • In Run command, type cmd and click Ok
  • In the command prompt window, type ipconfig /release and hit Enter on keyboard

  • Wait for the command operation to complete. Now, type ipconfig /renew and then hit Enter

Once you are done with typing both commands, close command prompt window. See whether the issue is resolved. If the error still exists, move to next solution.

Solution Three – Disable the IP Helper service

The IP Helper service provides tunnel connectivity using IPv6 transition technologies.

Disabling IP Helper service could help in resolving the “IPv6 no network access” error.

Here are the steps to follow.

  • Press Windows logo key and R simultaneously to invoke the Run command

  • From the list, select Disabled

  • Click OK
  • Go back to Services window again and right-click IP helper service

  • Click Stop
  • Close the Services window

Check whether the issue has been resolved. If the error still persists, move to next solution.

Solution  Four – Disable Antivirus software

There is a possibility your antivirus is preventing Internet access and causing error“IPv6 no network access”.

In that case, try disabling anti-virus temporarily and see if it helps.

The steps to disable anti-virus temporarily are unique for each security software. Refer the software documentation to know exact steps to disable anti-virus temporarily.

If the issue is resolved after disabling anti-virus, you can conclude the anti-virus is the problem.

You can uninstall your antivirus tool and use the in-built Windows Defender. Alternately, you can use another 3rd party anti-virus.

You can also contact technical support of your current anti-virus software, explain the problem and seek a solution.

If your problem does not get resolved even after disabling 3rd party antivirus, enable the anti-virus and move to next solution.

Solution Five – Update Ethernet drivers

Automatic driver update tools offer many benefits, the most important ones being:

  • You can update device drivers automatically
  • The software scans and updates all outdated or missing drivers at one go
  • The tool picks the right drivers for your device and operating system, so you won’t have to worry about installing an incorrect driver by mistake
  • Automatic driver updates are 100% safe
