Top 3 Registry Cleaner tools and why you need them

By Sushant Mehta on October 2, 2014

Registry is the heart of your Windows system. It is a place where the Windows Operating System stores the computers configuration information. IT experts advise against tampering with the Registry as incorrect changes in the Registry can severely affect the stability of your Windows system, leading to frequent crashes, BSOD’s (Blue Screen of Death if you are fortunate enough not to be familiar with this one!) and other critical system errors.

Over a period of time, the Registry gets bloated due to the bulk of Registry entries that accumulate over time. This, in turn, makes the system slow and unresponsive and can lead to computer errors. Registry-related errors can be easily solved and future ones prevented with the help of Registry Cleaning Software.

Why do I need a Registry Cleaner?

A Registry Cleaner is an application that removes unwanted and unnecessary entries in the Windows Registry. There are several free and premium Registry Cleaner tools available. Here we will take a look at the top 5 Registry Cleaners (the first three in the list are free software tools while the last two are paid) that you can use.

1. Auslogics Registry Cleaner

This is one of the easiest Registry Cleaners to use. The program scans the Registry for unwanted entries and rates them at three severity levels—Low, Medium, and High. It gives a user full control on the type of entries that he/she wants to clear to improve the performance of the system. The program also gives the option to create backups and restore points before cleaning the Registry. Auslogics Registry Cleaner also provides you with tools to check other issues affecting system performance, such as Defragmentation, Junk files and privacy threats.

2. RegCure Pro

This is one of the best premium Registry Cleaners you can buy. RegCure Pro has received a gold rating from Microsoft, a clear indication about its efficiency in cleaning the Registry. The program automatically creates a backup before every registry cleaning and also defragments files to improve performance of the computer.

3. RegClean Pro

This Registry Cleaner registered the highest marks in Dhrystone, Whetstone and RAMPerf improvement tests that are conducted to test the efficiency of an application. RegClean Pro is extremely quick and safe for Registry cleaning. Besides creating backups before Registry cleaning, the program also offers tools to defrag registry hive after cleaning. This further improves the stability and performance of your computer.

Fix Atheros AR5009 Wi-Fi Adapter Errors

By Sushant Mehta on September 8, 2014

Atheros AR5009 Wi-Fi Adapter is a built-in component whose Drivers come pre-installed on your laptop. Sometimes the Network Drivers may become corrupted in which case your laptop may not be able to connect to a Wireless Network. To help you with issues related to this Adapter, we have set out a  few common errors and their solutions.

Solution for connectivity issues related to Atheros AR5009 Wi-Fi Adapter

An inability to connect to a specific Wi-Fi Network is one of the more common issues you may experience with internal Wi-Fi Adapters. The most common reason for this error is corrupted, missing, or out of date Drivers. Before proceeding to updating Drivers, you need to ensure the problem is not with your Router. If you have more than one Wireless Network available, you need to change the Broadcast Frequency of your Router.

Steps to change Broadcast frequency of your Router:

  1. Type Router IP Address in the address bar of  browser(Note: Every router has a specific IP address which is used to access its settings page. For example, the IP address for Belkin routers is 192.168.2.1 while TP-Link routers have 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Every router manufacturer specifies an IP address(S) to access the router settings page. You will find this information in the router’s manual)
  2. Enter  username and password and go to Wireless Settings
  3. Look for Channel/Standard Channel in Wireless settings and select 1 or 11 from the drop down list. Don’t select 6 as majority of the router manufacturers use it as the default broadcast channel.
  4. Click Save and try connecting to the Wi-Fi network.

Next step is to confirm if there is some problem with your Wi-Fi adapter. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start -> Control Panel
  2. Go to Hardware and Sound
  3. Under Device and Printers, click Device Manager.
  4. In Device Manager, click “+” to expand Network Adapters. You will see an entry for Atheros AR5009 Wi-Fi adapter.
  5. Right-click “Atheros AR5009 Wi-Fi adapter” to view its Properties

If you see a yellow exclamation mark near the device name, it means the problem is related to Drivers. To resolve the issue, you will be required to update and install compatible Wi-Fi Adapter Drivers for your Windows system.

Many users can get latest Drivers for Atheros AR5009 from their manufacturer website, if you prefer an automatic install and automatic Driver updates, click here to go to our Download Network Drivers page, from there you can download the Driver Update Tool.

  5. On next screen, click “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”
  6. On next screen, you will see Atheros AR5009 WiFi Adapter listed. Select “Have Disk”
  7. In Install from Disk window, click “Browse” button and select the drive/folder where the Drivers are located.
  8. Select the Driver file in the folder  and click “Open”
