How to customize Action Center in Windows 10?

By lisak on December 21, 2016

The Action center is home to all notifications in Windows 10. For those who don’t know, Action Center is a slide-out pane that appears when you click on an icon in the Taskbar. This feature is a nice addition and also pretty customizable.

Customizing quick actions pane

Quick actions is one of the more popular features in Windows 10, giving you easy access to several important settings. You can adjust the screen brightness, switch on Quiet hours, turn WiFi on or off and tweak several other settings. The quick action pane can have only 4 options visible at a time, but you can select which 4 actions appear. To customize the quick action pane, follow the steps set out below:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Click Settings > Notifications & Actions
  3. Under Quick Actions, you will see 4 boxes, each for selecting one action that appears in the Quick Action pane
  4. Click the box and select any action from the menu
  5. Make your choices in all 4 boxes

Toggle Notifications options

Windows 10 gives you a reasonable amount of control over notifications. On the Settings page, under the Notifications subheading, you will find several notification toggle buttons that let you switch on or off any notification in the list. Some of the important toggle notifications that you can consider customizing are:

  • Show me tips about Windows– When this notification is on, Windows shows some tips and tricks that are helpful for new users. If you are an experienced user, you can switch it off by moving the toggle switch to the Off position
  • Show app notifications– Keeping this notification will let you get notifications from apps installed on your PC
  • Show notifications on the lock screen – The title of this notification is self-explanatory. You may want it to turn it off to avoid prying eyes learning about the different notifications you have received
  • Hide notifications while presenting– You would not want notifications to pop up when you are giving an important presentation. Turn this notification off and you will never receive a notification when you are giving a PowerPoint presentation

Toggle app notifications

Windows 10 allows the user to control notifications on a per-app basis. It means you can select to receive some app notifications and silence all others. Here are the steps you need to follow

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Go to System > Notifications & Actions
  3. Scroll down to the Show notifications from these apps subheading. From here, you can control notifications on a per-app basis
  4. To silence a notification for a particular app, go to the app and toggle the switch to the Off position

Solution to Windows 10 issues in Lenovo Laptops

By lisak on September 5, 2016

Upgrading to Windows 10 is not always as straightforward as we would like it to be. Several Lenovo laptop users have complained about issues with webcam, keyboard, and touchpad after upgrading to Windows 10.

In this article, we will discuss a few problems faced by Lenovo laptop users after upgrading to Windows 10.

Lenovo Laptop won’t boot after failed Driver installation

If you are facing this issue and the booting process goes beyond the display of the Lenovo logo, it is likely that the problem is software-related. If the problem has appeared after a failed Driver installation, you can login in safe mode and remove the problematic Driver. You can also use the Windows Recovery option to fix the issue.  Below are the troubleshooting steps you need to follow in order to fix this issue.

If you are not able to successfully boot into the Windows environment after trying more than two times, Windows 10 will automatically present you with the Windows Recovery option.

  1. When you enter the Windows Recovery environment, select Troubleshoot
  2. Select Advanced options in the next screen
  3. In the Advanced Options screen, select Startup Settings
  4. In next screen, select Restart
  5. In the Startup Settings screen, press F4 to enter Safe Mode
  6. You are now into Safe Mode and you can now uninstall the problematic Driver
  7. Type Device Manager in the Search box
  8. Select Device Manager from the list of results and go to the problematic Device Driver
  9. Select the device and click Uninstall
  10. Restart your laptop

Activation error after performing a clean install of Windows 10 on Lenovo laptop

To get the free upgrade to Windows 10, you need to first upgrade from Windows 8/8.1 to Windows 10. Using any other method to install Windows 10 will not recognize your Windows key as valid.   The reason for this is that when you upgrade from Windows 8/8.1 to Windows 10, your Windows product key is also upgraded.  Performing a clean install is only advised after you have upgraded to Windows 10 and successfully activated it.

Lenovo Easy Camera does not work after Windows 10 upgrade

Several Lenovo laptop users have complained about the camera not working after upgrading to Windows 10. This problem is most likely Driver-related. Below are troubleshooting steps to fix this issue:
