The Action center is home to all notifications in Windows 10. For those who don’t know, Action Center is a slide-out pane that appears when you click on an icon in the Taskbar. This feature is a nice addition and also pretty customizable.
Customizing quick actions pane
Quick actions is one of the more popular features in Windows 10, giving you easy access to several important settings. You can adjust the screen brightness, switch on Quiet hours, turn WiFi on or off and tweak several other settings. The quick action pane can have only 4 options visible at a time, but you can select which 4 actions appear. To customize the quick action pane, follow the steps set out below:
- Open the Settings app
- Click Settings > Notifications & Actions
- Under Quick Actions, you will see 4 boxes, each for selecting one action that appears in the Quick Action pane
- Click the box and select any action from the menu
- Make your choices in all 4 boxes
Toggle Notifications options
Windows 10 gives you a reasonable amount of control over notifications. On the Settings page, under the Notifications subheading, you will find several notification toggle buttons that let you switch on or off any notification in the list. Some of the important toggle notifications that you can consider customizing are:
- Show me tips about Windows– When this notification is on, Windows shows some tips and tricks that are helpful for new users. If you are an experienced user, you can switch it off by moving the toggle switch to the Off position
- Show app notifications– Keeping this notification will let you get notifications from apps installed on your PC
- Show notifications on the lock screen – The title of this notification is self-explanatory. You may want it to turn it off to avoid prying eyes learning about the different notifications you have received
- Hide notifications while presenting– You would not want notifications to pop up when you are giving an important presentation. Turn this notification off and you will never receive a notification when you are giving a PowerPoint presentation
Toggle app notifications
Windows 10 allows the user to control notifications on a per-app basis. It means you can select to receive some app notifications and silence all others. Here are the steps you need to follow
- Open the Settings app
- Go to System > Notifications & Actions
- Scroll down to the Show notifications from these apps subheading. From here, you can control notifications on a per-app basis
- To silence a notification for a particular app, go to the app and toggle the switch to the Off position
