How do Printer Drivers Work?

By DriversExpert on September 12, 2014

Updated Printer Driver

Printer Drivers are essentially small software programs which allow your Printer to communicate with your computer.

Different Operating Systems will use different Printer Drivers and the Drivers are also specific to the brand, type and model of Printer. So a HP Photosmart 5510 running on Windows 7 will need a different Printer Driver to HP Photosmart b110 also running on Windows 7. This would in turn need a different Driver when running on Windows 8.

Basically Printer Drivers are very specific and the vast majority of the problems we hear about relate to incompatible, out-of-date, corrupt or missing Printer Drivers.

You essentially have 2 options if your Printer Drivers need to be updated. You can go to the manufacturers website and locate, download and install the Drivers yourself (the older Drivers may be difficult to locate in this manner), or you can use a Driver Update Tool to automate this process. It all depends on how much time you are willing to spend on it and also how confident you feel updating the Drivers yourself.

How can I fix Drivers problems?

  1. You can try to track down an updated version of your Printer Drivers if you know the manufacturer and type of driver required.
  2. use a driver update tool (this will apply to all your required Drivers and not just the Printer Drivers)

Fix ATI High Definition Audio Device Errors

By DriversExpert on July 2, 2014

To download/ update your ATI Drivers you can download our ATI Driver Update Tool here (click the download link)

ATI high definition audio device errors can severely affect the sound output capability of your system. In some cases, you may not hear sound from your speakers or sometimes the system generates an error code and stalls your movie playback. Though the error codes seem technical, you can solve ATI high definition audio device errors on your own using the instructions set out in the post below.

Let’s look at some common ATI high definition audio device errors and their solutions.

Fix “BugCheck 0x0000007e ntoskrnl kb965494” error

The cause of this error lies in the way the Windows system loads Device Drivers. In some cases, Windows OS loads the default Microsoft HDMI Driver although an ATI high definition Driver exists in your system. To resolve this issue, you need to change the settings in Device Manager to ensure the HDMI device points to the directory where the ATI high definition audio drivers are located.

Go to Device Manager > Sound > right click on HDMI high definition audio device > Update Driver > Browse my Computer for driver software.

Fix frequent sound skips problems in your system

This problem is generally related to ATI high definition sound drivers. If the problem has started after you updated the HD audio drivers, roll back your Drivers to a previous working version. If this doesn’t solve the issue, download the latest compatible ATI HD sound drivers from the Internet or use a Driver update tool to automate the process.

Fix “Error creating DirectSound buffer. Error code: 8878001E”

You may see this error while playing sound files in WinAmp player. The error is related to sound drivers and is generated when Windows Audio Service crashes. To ensure there is no problem with ATI high definition audio device drivers, start the Windows Audio Services again. You should also uncheck hardware acceleration in the DirectSound output plug-in in WinAmp player to ensure that this is not the cause of the error. To start Windows Audio Services follow these steps

Type “services.msc” without quotes in Run command search box.

Locate Windows Audio service and start it again.

How to solve “No Sound” or Choppy Sound” problem?

If you do not hear any sound from your speakers, the first thing you should do is check the physical connection to the speakers and ensure the speakers are receiving power supply. Once you have ensured there is no problem with connections, you need to check in the Device Manager to see whether it is an internal problem.

Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager

Locate ATI High Definition Audio Device and look for any Red Cross or Yellow exclamation mark.

If you see a Red Cross mark, then most probably the Sound chip is dead and you need to buy a new sound card.

If you see a yellow exclamation mark, you need to uninstall and reinstall ATI High definition audio device drivers.

Audio device errors are generally caused by driver conflicts or other problem with sound device drivers. To prevent such errors, you need to keep your sound device drivers updated at all times.

Fix Problems with Sound Blaster Z Card

By DriversExpert on June 27, 2014

Sound Blaster Errors

You insert your favourite movie CD and realise there is no sound from your laptop speakers. This is a common enough problem and is most likely the result of a problem with your Sound Blaster Z Card. This post offers practical solutions for most Blaster Z Card common errors and will help resolve your sound errors in no time.

Solution to Sound Blaster Z card not detected by your system

Your Windows system may display a message saying, “No Sound device on your computer”.

This error is mainly caused due to missing or corrupt Sound Drivers. To resolve this issue, you need to ensure that Sound Blaster Z card is listed in the Device Manger. Follow the steps  below to check whether your Sound Card is listed in the Device Manager or not.

  • Click Start and go to Control Panel
  • Click System and Security
  • Click Device Manager
  • Under Sound, video and game controllers, look for Sound Blaster Z card entry

If the sound card is listed in Device Manager and you see a yellow exclamation mark next to the Sound Blaster Z card entry, it means the problem is related to device drivers.

Note: If the sound card is not listed in the Device Manager, you need to install the Sound Blaster Z card in another PCIe slot. If an additional PCIe slot is not available in your motherboard, you need to install your Sound Blaster Z card in other computer and see if it is detected. If your sound card is detected in the other computer, the PCIe slot on your motherboard is the problem. If the Sound card is not detected in other computer, there is a problem with the Sound Blaster Z card.

Try updating your Sound Card Drivers by visiting the manufacturer’s website. Alternatively, you can try installing Drivers from the CD that is provided with your Sound Card. Install only the latest Sound Card software and then restart the system.

Solution for Mic not functioning

A conflict between the integrated audio chip on your motherboard and your Sound Card may prevent a Mic from functioning when you insert it in the microphone port of Sound Blaster Z card.  Follow the steps below to check if the Sound Card is properly detected and in working order.

  • Click Start and go to Control Panel
  • Click System and Security
  • Click Device Manager
  • Under Sound, video and game controllers, look for Sound Blaster Z card entry.
  • Click Sound Blaster Z card twice to reveal its Properties. A “This device is working properly” message in the Properties dialog box indicates there is no conflict between devices.
  • After you have confirmed that device is working fine, you should disable onboard audio in BIOS to correct the issue. This is how you can do that:
  • Access BIOS during startup. Option to disable on-board audio is listed in Integrated Peripherals section in Board.
  • Look for name such as “Primary Audio Device”.  If you are unable to find such name look for words such as AC97 or audio
  • Select the audio device and use bi-directional arrows to locate and select disable option
  • Save changes and exit BIOS

To update your Sound Blaster Z card drivers automatically, click here to go to the sound driver download page and use the ‘download’ button to download our recommended Sound Driver Update Tool and run a free driver scan for your Sound Blaster Z card.
