Device not migrated on Windows 10 [Fixed]

By Susan C on January 17, 2020

Many users have complained that some of their devices stop working after they upgraded to Windows 10. Are you facing this issue? If yes, this post should be able to help you migrate your device to Windows 10.

Below are three solutions to the above error. Start with the first one and work your way down until you are able to solve this issue.

Solution 1 – Check the system files

Damaged system files can prevent devices from getting successfully migrated. However, you can recover the system files by performing these steps.

  • In the start search box type cmd. Next, right-click Command Prompt in the list and choose Run as administrator
  • You’ll be prompted by User Access Control. Simply click Yes
  • In the Command Prompt window, type sfc/scannow
  • Now System File Checker will scan the system for damaged system files. The whole process may take anywhere between 15 and 45 mins to complete. If it finds any damaged files, the tool will automatically repair them
  • Restart Windows

Solution 2 – Update the chipset driver

You can get this error if the chipset driver is outdated or corrupt. You can update the chipset driver manually by visiting your chipset motherboard manufacturer’s website to check which type of driver your motherboard has. Next, check if the latest version is this driver is available on the manufacturer’s website. If yes, download and install it.

Updating Drivers Automatically

Automatic driver update tools offer many benefits, the most important ones being:

  • You can update device drivers automatically
  • The software scans and updates all outdated or missing drivers at one go
  • The tool picks the right drivers for your device and operating system, so you won’t have to worry about installing an incorrect driver by mistake
  • Automatic driver updates are 100% safe

Driver Updater is one of the best driver update tools out there. Outbyte Driver Updater will give you access to a database of over 1 million drivers. It will regularly scan your PC, suggesting new driver versions to install. Driver Updater contains drivers for a variety of Windows devices. With just one click, you can update drivers in your system.

Step 1
Click here to Install and launch the app

Solution 3 – Reinstall the specific driver

An incompatible device driver can also cause this error to appear. If the above two steps didn’t work for you, try reinstalling the driver for device that you couldn’t migrate.

For instance, if you get the error with your keyboard, you need to reinstall the keyboard driver.

  • Type run in the start search box and press Enter
  • Type devmgmt.msc and click the OK button
  • In the Device Manager window, expand the Keyboard section. Now right-click the keyboard device you are using and then click Uninstall
  • Restart Windows. Upon reboot, Windows will automatically reinstall the correct keyboard driver

  • In Run command, type devmgmt.msc and click OK
  • In the Device Manager, right click Video Controller and then click Uninstall
  • Check the box that appears in the Confirm Device Uninstall window and then click the OK button

Go to the video card manufacturer’s website or your PC or laptop manufacturer’s site and locate and download the latest video controller driver for Windows 10. Download save the file in a suitable location.

Next, perform these steps:

  • Press Windows logo key + R together to bring up the Run command
  • In Run command, type devmgmt.msc and click OK
  • In the Device Manager, right click Video Controller and then click Update Driver Software
  • Now select Browse my computer for driver software
  • In the next window, click the Browse button, navigate to the location where you’ve saved the driver file and select it.
  • Click Next and follow onscreen instructions
  • Restart Windows
