Fix problem with unexpected shutdowns

By Sushant Mehta on March 13, 2013

If your pc is shutting down unexpectedly while you work on it, ask yourself these questions before doing anything else:

  • Did I install any new program recently?
  • Did I make any changes to the Windows settings recently?
  • Did I install any new Windows updates?
  • When was the last time I scheduled a registry scan?

All of them—installation of a new program or latest Windows updates, a change made to the Windows settings, and a corrupt, cluttered registry—can cause Windows to shut down unexpectedly.

System Restore Not Working (Fixed)

If the first three are causing the issue, restore Windows to a time when abrupt, unplanned shutdowns were not occurring. To do this, perform the steps listed below:

  1. Click the Windows logo
  2. Type “system restore” in the Start Search box
  3. Press Enter
  4. Select either Recommended restore or Choose a different restore point
  5. Click the Next button
  6. Click the Finish button if you selected the Recommended restore option. If you choose the 2nd option, select a restore point from the list displayed in the next screen, click Next, and then the Finish button

If the cause is a corrupt registry, run a registry scan using an advanced registry cleaner to fix the issue.

Fix ekrn.exe High CPU Usage

By Sushant Mehta on March 11, 2013

Users who use ESET products like ESET Smart Security Suite Kernel Service or other products often complain of a process, called ekrn.exe, consuming high CPU resources regularly.

The Ekrn.exe file is an important part of ESET Smart Security Suite Kernel Service, ESET NOD32 Antivirus, and some other ESET security products. Its’ main function is to transfer data on behalf of the installed ESET security program. In addition, it is also responsible for scanning files that you download from the Internet.

100% Disk Usage Windows 10

Cause of high CPU usage

The exact cause of ekrn.exe high CPU usage is not known. It is suspected that this issue may arise if the ESET product is not up-to-date. The issue may also occur if you are using Windows Vista and have installed Comodo Firewall version 3.014 on it.

Fix high CPU usage

Depending on the cause of the error, you can fix it by updating your ESET security product or upgrading to Comodo Firewall version 3.015.

In case these steps do not fix the issue and high CPU consumption of ekrn.exe is causing too many problems, you are recommended to replace ESET security tool with some other reliable, light security tool. For instance, if you use ESET NOD32, replace it with another reliable antivirus tool which does not consume a lot of space.

Registry Errors: Causes and Solution

By Sushant Mehta on March 9, 2013

Errors in windows registry can become a huge problem if they are not addressed. Registry errors can slow your pc, cause dll, exe, Activex, and ‘Blue Screen of Death’ errors, make certain programs unusable, and, in the most serious cases, prevent Windows from booting up.

While the consequences of registry-related issues are many, most of them being severe, these issues can be easily corrected and prevented. Before we look at the solution to registry errors, let’s see why they occur in the first place.

Registry errors usually occur due to:

  • Incomplete un-installation of applications
  • Incorrect installation of applications
  • Corrupt programs
  • Malware programs

You can fix and prevent registry errors by using an advanced registry cleaner. At the click of the mouse, this piece of software cleans your registry, fixing all registry-related issues and errors.
