iOS 10 update – Apple users have their wish list ready

By Sushant Mehta on December 28, 2015

It has been only few months since iOS 9 was released and Apple users have already made their wish list ready for the iOS 10 update. Experts believe Apple is already testing iOS 10 and they see a bigger role for Siri in the next update. While Apple continues with the testing, here are the few things that users can expect in the iOS 10 update.

Customizable Control Center

While the Control Center in iOS is a good feature, users feel that with more customization options it could be improved upon. Currently, you can access Control Center from any app screen. You just have to swipe up from the bottom of the screen. If you have opened an app that has similar swipe gestures, you have to swipe up twice to get the Control Center.

Besides giving access to important settings like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Music Player, Rotation lock and screen brightness, the Control Center also gives access to some core apps such as Camera, Calculator, Flashlight, and Timer. Apple fans say not all users use these apps on daily basis.  They want the freedom to choose their favorite apps that can be accessed quickly through Control Center.

Default 3rd party apps

There is no doubt that the default apps such as Mail, Safari and Calendar are good when it comes to performing their desired functions. But there are so many alternatives to default apps that work better. Users want Apple to include an option where they can replace the default apps with 3rd party apps they like.

Hide pre-installed applications

Like every other mobile operating system, iOS also comes with pre-installed apps. It is useful to have pre-installed apps so that we can start using them right away, however, this is not always the case. There are several pre-installed apps that many users seldom use such as Podcast or Tips app. In order to help reduce clutter on the screen, many users suggest Apple provide an option to hide pre-installed apps.

Multi-user support

Android has multi-user support, a feature which Apple fans have wanted for a long time. These days it is common to share your devices with family members. Also, in a professional environment, you might be required to share your iPad with your colleagues. Multi-user support will allow you to easily share your Apple device with another user. Apple has several user authentication options and it is quite possible to have separate user accounts without risk of revealing personal or sensitive information.

While Apple works hard to improve user experience, considering these user requests will make Apple fans happy and make iOS 10 more user-friendly environment.

Google and Asus team up to offer Wave Control

By Sushant Mehta on December 11, 2015

If you use a router in your home or office network setup, you will be aware that these networking devices are less than perfect and there is still great scope for improvement. We have become used to connections dropping unexpectedly, often leaving us with no option other than to reset the router and the interfaces of these routers are not always that user-friendly.

Google plans to change this and has teamed up with Asus to offer a new generation router that speeds up the internet connection on your device by a simple wave of hand over the router. Below we will look at this router in more detail.

The 2nd generation OnHub Router from Google and Asus

Google launched its first OnHub router with TP-Link and it is now presenting a newer version of OnHub that has the smart Wave control feature. The highlight of this new OnHub router is that you can boost speed of any WiFi device by simply waving your hand on the top of the Asus OnHub router. This single feature separates the Asus OnHub from the all routers in the market, including its predecessor.

More about Asus OnHub router

The Asus OnHub router is cylindrical in shape, but its base is wider than the TP-Link OnHub. The OnHub router is powered by a dual core CPU tuned to clock speed of 1.4 GHz. Asus OnHub also offers 4 GB internal storage, so that it can install updates to work smarter.  The routers settings can be accessed from an app on your Smartphone.

How does Wave control work?

A very useful feature of the Asus OnHub router is that it allows you to set a priority level for devices. For example, let’s say you have three devices at home accessing Internet through OnHub, smart TV, a laptop and a Smartphone. The laptop is listed as a priority device in OnHub. If at any time, you experience slow internet speed while working on the laptop, all you have to do is just wave your hand on the top of Asus OnHub and the router will immediately grant more bandwidth to your laptop so your work does not suffer. This smart feature is quite useful as you are not required to log into the router interface and set priority yourself every time you experience low internet speed.

Are you ready for Blackberry Priv?

By Sushant Mehta on December 4, 2015

The Android platform is one of the most popular mobile platforms on the market today. If you are a BlackBerry fan and want to experience Android, there is reason to celebrate – BlackBerry Priv is here! There are some very positive initial reports about BlackBerry Priv.

How different is BlackBerry Priv?

Though an Android phone, BlackBerry Priv retains all characteristics of the BlackBerry lineup of phones. The phone has 5.4 inch touchscreen offering a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The screen is packed with 540 pixels per inch that offers stunning clarity to your images and videos. The AMOLED screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. One of the unique features of the BlackBerry Priv is its sliding keyboard.

Android Phone with an extended keypad

We are so used to touchscreen keyboards that many of us have forgotten how typing on a physical keypad feels like. One of the signature looks of BlackBerry phones was its QWERTY keypad that make it instantly recognizable and also offered convenience while typing in details. The BlackBerry Priv retains its QWERTY keyboard but it lies hidden during the normal use and you can slide it out when you need it. The QWERTY keypad is backlit which means you will also be able to comfortably type in dim light.

Inside the BlackBerry Priv

Today, the majority of Smartphones are powered by Qualcomm, and BlackBerry Priv is no different. A Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chip sits inside the BlackBerry Priv. The Qualcomm chip houses a dual core and a quad-core processor running at 1.8GHz and 1.44GHz clock speeds, respectively. The phone also has a dedicated graphics processor- Adreno 418.

The phone has 3GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage space. If that does not seem enough, the BlackBerry also supports microSD card up to 200GB. The rear camera is an 18MP camera supporting a resolution of 4896 x 3672 pixels. The lens of the camera is manufactured by Schneider-Kreuznach optics which is well known for its high quality photography lenses. The front camera is a 2MP camera which is capable of shooting 720p videos. The BlackBerry Priv has several photography friendly features such as optical image stabilization, autofocus, and several other features.

Though, the specifications might look similar to other Android phones, the unique design of BlackBerry, its sliding keyboard, and more RAM availability, makes it standout in the Android phone market.
