Reactivate Hibernate Mode in Windows 8 and 7

By Sushant Mehta on May 13, 2013

In most versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7, the hibernation mode, inexplicably, is not activated by default. However, it can be still accessed if you want to. Let’s learn how.

To use the hibernate mode, you need to deactivate hybrid sleep first. As long as it is present, Windows will not offer you the hibernation mode option.

To do this in Windows 7, perform these steps:

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Click Power Options
  3. Click Change Plan Settings
  4. Click Change advanced power settings
  5. Locate and Expand Sleep, and then expand Allow hybrid sleep
  6. Change the settings to Off
  7. Click Apply and then click OK

The Hibernate option will now appear in the Shut down menu.

To do this in Windows 8, perform these steps:

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Click Power Options
  3. Click the Choose what the power buttons do option, located in the left panel
  4. Activate the Change settings that are currently unavailable option
  5. In the Shutdown Settings box, select the Hibernate option
  6. Save the changes

The Hibernate option will now appear in the Shut down menu.

Whether you use Windows 7 or 8, you must turn on all present security features. In addition, you must use a reliable third-party antivirus tool.

Make your Mac appear on a Windows network

By Sushant Mehta on May 9, 2013

Want to have your Mac appear on a Windows network?

In some Macs, the share setting is disabled by default. This is likely to be the case if you have a new Mac too. To see your Mac on your Windows network, simply enable the share setting. To do this, complete the steps detailed below:

  1. Click the Apple icon, and then click System Preferences
  2. Under the Internet & Wireless heading, locate and click the Sharing folder
  3. Check whether your Mac has a name. If it doesn’t, enter a name for it
  4. Select the features you want to share (these are listed on the left side), tick the box before File Sharing, and then click the Options button
  5. Next, tick the box before Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)
  6. Enter in a password for sharing your user account

You can share a Windows PC with Mac by entering this password on your Windows pc.

Whether it is Windows or Mac, you must keep it safe from malware. For Windows, you need a Windows-compatible antivirus tool. Mac users, on the other hand, will need a mac-compatible security tool.

Microsoft to introduce 7-inch Windows 8 tablet

By Sushant Mehta on May 8, 2013

Can’t get enough of Windows 8 Surface tablet and want it a new, smaller option? Then there is some good news for you. By the end of this year, you may be able to get hold of something along these lines.

Microsoft, finally, has jumped on the smaller tablet bandwagon and is working on a new range of 7-inches Surface (Windows 8) tablet. Not part of its original plans, the idea of developing smaller tablets struck Microsoft only after other smaller tablets, especially Nexus 7 (made by Google) and iPad mini, became a success. The encouraging response that Surface Pro and Surface RT got following their launch last October was also responsible for shaping Microsoft’s new decision.

With more and more people favoring smaller tablets over 13- and 15-inches tablets, Microsoft is hopeful of success in this segment of the market.

While Windows 8 is faster and better than Windows 7, many users have decided to stick with their older Windows version. Windows 8 has done away with quite a few features present in Windows 7, and probably for this reasons many are reluctant to make the switch. The version of Windows one uses is a personal choice. What is more important that you keep it protected from virus and other malware attacks. This is something you can achieve easily by using a reliable antivirus tool.
