How to replace IE 10 with IE 9 on Windows 7

By Sushant Mehta on August 17, 2013

In Windows 7, uninstalling programs or applications is simple, fast, and easy. This, however, does not hold true for Internet Explorer (IE10), the latest version of Internet Explorer, a popular web browser from Microsoft. IE10 has had a mixed reception; some like it, while many others don’t.

IE10 cannot be removed via the Control Panel

If you are unhappy with IE 10, you can safely remove it and install IE9. However, as said before, the process of removing IE10 is a bit tricky. You cannot remove it through the Control Panel, because IE10 does not appear in the list of installed programs.

Instead, it is present in the “Turn Windows features on or off” section. However, you must not uncheck the box before IE10 here. Users who do this will find themselves without IE. In other words, unchecking the box before IE10 will leave you with no working version of this web browser.

Rolling back to IE9

In Windows 7, IE10 is not installed as a feature or program, but as an update, and that’s why its name is absent in the list of installed programs.

To remove IE10 and roll back to the previous IE version, i.e. IE9, perform the following steps:

  • Click Start
  • Click Control Panel
  • Click Program and Features
  • Click View installed updates listed on to identify the update that resulted in installation of IE10
  • Right-click this update and select Uninstall
  • Restart your Windows computer after uninstalling is complete

On restart, you will find IE9 running instead of IE10.

Windows 7 is significantly better than Vista, just like Windows 8 is an improvement over Windows 7. With each new version, Windows becomes faster and safer. Nevertheless, irrespective of the version of Windows installed, one cannot do without a reliable antivirus tool. Such tools protect your Windows PC or laptop from Internet security threats and help remove malware in case it becomes infected.

If you have bought a new Windows computer and are looking to purchase an antivirus tool, here are some tips that will help you.

  • Listen to what other users are saying – As far as an antivirus software application is concerned, it is better you go with the trusted names. Check out different online forums to learn which protection tool is considered to be the best.
  • Compatibility – This is not an issue for people who have newer Windows versions like Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista. However, people with older Windows versions must confirm the compatibility of an antivirus tool before purchasing it.
  • Performance – Some antivirus tool are notorious for causing system freeze-ups during scans. There is no point in investing in such software as there are many good antivirus tools in the market that are effective.

Fix csgina.dll failed to load error

By Sushant Mehta on August 12, 2013

Csgina.dll error usually occurs during the uninstallation or installation of Cisco VPN. This error is accompanied with the below-mentioned error message or an error message similar to it and occurs because the application gets loaded before Windows.

Error message: “The Login User Interface DLL CSGina.dll failed to load. Replace or restore the DLL.”

This software makes changes in the Windows registry, switching off the fast user switching capability and causing the error. There are three different ways through which you can fix this error. Choose the one that is most appropriate for you.

Warning: 2 out 3 steps discussed here need you to make changes in registry. Do not edit registry unless you are completely comfortable doing so. Before adding or deleting information in registry, make a registry backup. For this purpose, you are advised to use a reliable and fast registry maintenance software application.

Solution 1

  • Launch Windows in the Safe Mode
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type regedit in the Open box, and then press OK
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoft
    WindowsNTCurrentVersionWinlogon
  • Right-click GinaDLL in the pane on your right, and then select Delete
  • Exit Registry Editor
  • Restart Windows in the Normal Mode

Solution 2

Users who do not use a graphic user interface at Windows startup and are unable to boot in the Safe Mode should try this method.

  • Load recovery console, and run these commands

CD System32
COPY CSGina.DLL OLDCSGina.DLL
COPY MSGina.DLL CSGina.DLL

  • Click Yes
  • Exit recovery console

Solution 3

If you use a VPN dialer (Cisco Systems), try this method.

Users find that they can no longer use Fast User Switching after they have installed Cisco VPN dialer. Further, every time a users tries to enable the former, an error message stating that this file has disabled two default features, Windows Welcome Screen & Fast User Switching, is received.

This error occurs because the VPN dialer from Cisco replaces the msgina.dll with its own dll file, csgina.dll. Msgina.dll is Microsoft Graphical Identification and Authentication file, and its removal lead to switching off of Fast User Switching feature.

To fix the issue, open Windows registry and do the following:

  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon
  • Look for GinaDLL in the right window and delete it
  • Close registry editor
  • Open Windows built-in uninstaller, Add or Remove Programs
  • Select and uninstall your VPN dialer (Cisco Systems)
  • Restart Windows

The above steps allow you to get rid of the listed error once and for all. If, for some reasons, you are unable to troubleshoot csgina.dll error using these steps, we recommend you contact Microsoft Support.

Fix Flash.ocx error

By Sushant Mehta on August 4, 2013

Flash player is primarily used in the development of interactive websites. Programmers embed it in web pages using Active X controls. This, in turn, enables certain functionalities and features in the web pages.

While Flash player is useful, sometimes it becomes necessary to uninstall it. One such situation is when you repeatedly receive ‘flash.ocx is missing error’.

How to enable flash on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Opera browser?

You may too need to uninstall it if you are receiving the error listed above. However, before you proceed with the uninstalling, we recommend you try this workaround, which has helped many users get rid of this persistent error without uninstalling Flash Player.

  • Open My Computer
  • Go to C:WindowsSystem32MacromedFlash
  • Find and select the flash*.ocx file (flash*.ocx represents the version of this file that is installed in your Windows computer. For example, users with Flash 10 will find flash10.ocx is present inside the above folder. Sometimes you find more than one version of flash.ocx file. If so, remove the latest one)
  • Rename this file
  • Restart Windows
  • Check whether the issue is resolved

Those of you who are still receiving the error will need to uninstall the utility. You can do this through Add or Remove Programs.

  • Close all open programs
  • Open the Control Panel window
  • Click Add or Remove Programs
  • Choose Flash Player in the list containing the names of  currently installed programs
  • Click Uninstall
  • Restart Windows

If, for some reasons, you are not able to uninstall Flash Player using the built-in Windows uninstaller, download and use the uninstaller from Adobe to remove Flash Player.

  • Open your web browser
  • Go to Adobe’s official website
  • Locate the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller
  • Download it and save the exe file
  • Ensure that all running programs are closed (At the least, all programs that use Flash Player must be closed before you run the exe file. Popular programs that use this utility include instant messengers and web browsers)
  • Launch the uninstaller by double-clicking its exe file
  • Click Yes to allow the application to uninstall Flash Player
  • Restart Windows after the uninstaller has successfully uninstalled Flash Player

After you’ve successfully uninstalled the utility, you can then download and install its’ most recent version. But before you do this, we recommend you run a registry scan. This will ensure that all entries related to the previous version of Flash Player have been permanently deleted from the registry. For registry scans and other registry maintenance tasks, you should use a trusted registry cleaner.
