Fix realsched.exe high CPU usage issue

By Sushant Mehta on August 2, 2013

Realsched.exe is associated with RealPlayer. This process, also known as RealNetworks application scheduler, is responsible for handling automatic updates as well as update notifications. While an important process, it has been regularly criticized by RealPlayer users for using too much CPU resource both when Windows starts and when Windows is running.

By default this process loads with Windows. If it is slowing the boot process, you can prevent it from starting automatically every time you start your Windows computer.

To remove realsched.exe from startup, complete the following two steps.

Turn off Message Centre

  • Locate and click the icon of RealPlayer on the desktop or taskbar
  • Click Tools>Preferences>Message Centre>Configure Message Centre
  • Deselect all the items that appear in the list
  • Save your changes, and close RealPlayer
  • Restart your computer

Remove realsched.exe from startup

  • Click the Windows icon
  • Type msconfig.exe in the Start Search Box, and press Enter
  • Click Startup
  • Locate and deselect the checkbox before realsched.exe
  • Click Apply
  • Click OK
  • Click Restart (this will restart your computer) or Exit without restart in the System Configuration dialog box that appears on your screen next

Fix high CPU issue associated with realsched.exe

If realsched.exe is constantly causing Windows to freeze up, it is best that you remove it once and for all from your computer (Remember that you will not be able to enjoy the functionalities that this process offers. Its removal, however, will not stop RealPlayer from loading and playing audios and videos).

To remove it, perform these steps:

Terminate realsched.exe

  • Open Task Manager
  • Select reaslched.exe
  • Click End Process

Delete registry entries related to it

Important: We recommend you make a backup of your registry before making any changes to it. The easiest and perhaps the most effective way of backing registry is by using a reliable registry maintenance software application.

  • Click the Windows icon
  • Type run in the Start Search box
  • Type regedit in the Run dialog box, and click OK
  • Click Edit in the Registry Editor window, and then Find Next
  • Type realsched.exe in the box that appears next to Find what, and click Find Next
  • Delete the entries related to realsched.exe that comes up
  • Close the Registry Editor window after you’ve deleted all entries related to this file

Delete this file

  • Open My Computer and go to C:Program FilesCommon FilesRealUpdate_OB
  • Delete this exe file

Steps to Transfer iTunes Library From One System to Another

By Sushant Mehta on July 30, 2013

There are many reasons you may wish to transfer your iTunes library from one computer to another. For instance, you may want to share it with your friends/ family or just transfer it to a newly-purchased computer. This article lists the steps that will help you perform this task.

The process of transferring the iTunes library is not difficult. Just go through the steps listed here to complete the task.

Step 1: Locate the iTunes library on your current computer

On a Mac computer, the library is located in the ~/Music folder.

On a Windows system, the default location for the library is C:UsersYourUserNameMy Music. In Windows 7, you can also find the Library on the sidebar of Windows Explorer. The name of the folder here is LibrariesMusic.

Step 2: Copy files to the second computer

There are two ways to copy the files—over network and by using an external hard drive.

Steps to copy the files over network

  • Click on the library of the source computer
  • Drag the library from the source computer and drop it to the shared folder of the destination computer

If the computers are connected through gigabit Ethernet LAN, it should take around 20 minutes to transfer 100GB of music files. However, on a Wi-Fi network the transfer can take up to 3 hours or even more at times.

Steps to copy the files using external drive

You can still copy the files even when there is no network connectivity between the two systems. This is something you can do easily using an external hard disk. To do so, perform the following steps:

  • Connect the external hard disk to the computer with the iTunes library you want to share
  • Copy the library to the external hard disk
  • Disconnect the external hard disk and connect it to the second computer
  • Copy the iTunes library to this computer

This step is especially useful when the destination computer is not at the same location as the source computer.

Step 3: Import the iTunes library to iTunes on the new computer

  • Open iTunes.
  • Open File menu, and then select Add to Library
  • Browse to the folder where you copied the iTunes library.

The iTunes library transfer is now complete.

On a Mac computer, it is recommended that you use a reliable Mac optimization tool after the transfer is complete. This will ensure that no spyware or other harmful programs were copied during the transaction. Such tools will also help you optimize your Mac computer for better performance.

How to play any video format on your new iPhone or iPad

By Sushant Mehta on July 23, 2013

Both iPhone and iPad are great devices for viewing videos. But they also have a major drawback: they can play only a few formats at high resolutions. This not-so-admirable feature leaves Apple lovers with three choices:

  • Spend a significant amount of time converting videos to a format supported by their iPhone or iPad
  • Do not view formats not supported by their Apple device
  • Use a third-party application for playing other formats not supported by their device

The third option is ideal for someone who loves watching videos. Some of the better third-party applications for viewing different video formats on an Apple device are AVPlayer HD, OPlayer HD, and Cinexplayer HD. All three are paid applications.

If you also use an Apple notebook, besides the video-converting applications you must also consider using a mac optimizing tool. Such tools can make a world of difference to your notebook’s performance and security. With the help of a Mac optimizing tool you can keep your Mac laptop new for virtually forever.
