How to Fix Windows 11 Stuck on Welcome Screen?

By Susan C on March 13, 2025

How to Fix Windows 11 Stuck on Welcome Screen?

As Windows boots, a blue login screen with a “Welcome” message and a spinning circle of dots appears. Sometimes, this blue screen behaves like an inconsiderate guest, staying longer than it should. Or the system freezes here and refuses to complete the booting process. Wondering how to fix the issue?

Windows Desktop Manager is responsible for handling display animations for Windows, and this includes the blue “Welcome” screen. If it can’t initialize, a corrupt driver or file or an incompatible software is likely to blame. Read on to find out how to solve the “Windows 11 stuck on Welcome Screen” issue.

Before you start troubleshooting…

Check your Wi-Fi connection. Some users were able to fix the issue when they temporarily disabled their Wi-Fi. We recommend you give this a try before proceeding with the troubleshooting methods given below.

Method 1 – Disable Credentials Manager

Think of the Credentials Manager as a digital vault that protects sensitive information. Disabling it can help fix the “Windows stuck on welcome screen” issue.

To disable Credentials Manager, you need to boot Windows in the Safe Mode. As only essential files and drivers are loaded in Safe Mode, it provides an ideal environment for troubleshooting errors.

Here’s what you need to do to disable Credentials Manager:

  • Reboot your system several times. When it gets to the point where a pop-up message stating, “Preparing Automatic Repair” appears, then select Advanced options

  • Click Troubleshoot

  • Select Advanced Options
  • Click Startup Settings

  • Click the Restart button

  • Select the type of Safe Mode you want to boot with when your computer restarts

  • Once Windows loads in Safe Mode, press Win + R keys to launch the Run dialog box
  • Type services.msc and hit Enter

  • Double click Credentials Manager in the right-side pane to view its properties

  • Select Disabled in the Startup type drop-down menu

  • Click the Apply button and then click OK

Restart Windows normally and check if the issue is fixed

Method 2 – Check if Windows is up to date

The next step is to ensure there are no pending updates. Perform these steps to check for updates in Windows 11:

  • Type settings in the Search bar in the taskbar and hit Enter
  • Click Windows Update in the left-side pane

  • Click Check for updates

If you find any update, install it.

Method 3 – Run SFC (and DISM)

System File Checker (SFC) is a built-in tools in Windows that scans and repair corrupt system files. DISM, a command line utility tool, fixes issues with Windows images and other problems that SFC cannot fix.

To run SFC and DISM, perform the following steps:

  • Type command prompt in the Search bar in the taskbar, right-click Command Prompt in the search results, and select Run as administrator

  • Type sfc /scannow in Command Prompt and hit Enter. Wait for the SFC utility to complete the scan
  • Next, type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in Command Prompt and hit Enter. Wait for the scan to complete

  • Exit Command Prompt

Method 4 – Disable Fast Startup

Fast startup is exactly what it sounds like: a pre-installed feature in Windows that starts your computer in less time. While a useful feature, sometimes it can hold back Windows Desktop Manager from initializing properly.

If the previous three steps have not worked for you, we recommend you try disabling Fast Startup.

  • Press Win + R keys to launch Run dialog box
  • Type powercfg.cpl and hit Enter

  • Click Choose what the power button does in the left-side pane

  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable

  • Disable Turn on fast startup (recommended) in the Shutdown settings

  • Click Save Changes and restart Windows

Method 5 – Update device drivers

Outdated device drivers can cause various problems. If none of the above steps have worked for you, we recommend updating device drivers. The easiest way to do this is by using an advanced third-party tool. We recommend you give Driver Updater a try. It is fast, reliable, and accurate.

Automatic driver update tools offer many benefits, the most important ones being:

  • You can update device drivers automatically
  • The software scans and updates all outdated or missing drivers at one go
  • The tool picks the right drivers for your device and operating system, so you won’t have to worry about installing an incorrect driver by mistake

How to Fix Connection Failed With Error 651 on Windows 11

How to Fix Connection Failed With Error 651 on Windows 11

We all know the situation: You’re surfing the net on your Windows computer or are about to connect to the internet, but the already-established connection gets interrupted or the computer fails to connect to the targeted connection.

One connection error that’s common on Windows 11 is the Error 651. Fortunately, it’s only a minor error, and you can easily troubleshoot it on your own. In this post, we’ll show you 5 effective ways to fix “Connection Failed with Error 651” on Windows 11.

Error Message

Error 651 appears in a pop-up window when you’re surfing the Internet or are about to connect. The exact text may vary a bit, but the error message always has the following text:

How to troubleshoot Error 651?

Before we proceed with the solutions, check whether the system or connection is to blame.

Test connectivity on another device or try a different connection

The first thing you need to do is determine if the issue is related to your computer, service provider, or modem.

If another device can connect on the same Wi-Fi network, you can safely assume the issue is system-related. On the other hand, if no other device can connect to your Wi-Fi network, the error is due to the router, modem, or service provider.

The other way to determine whether the Error 651 is system-related or not is to connect your Windows computer to another Wi-Fi network that you know is working fine. If the computer is not able to connect, the problem is system-related. Otherwise, the connection is the guilty party. If your system is to blame, try the solutions listed below in the order they appear.

Solution #1 – Run Network Troubleshooter

Network Troubleshooter is a built-in tool in Windows computers that scans and help fix common network connectivity issues.

Here’s how you can run the Windows Network Troubleshooter:

  • Type settings in the Search bar in the taskbar and hit Enter

  • Click System in the right-side panel
  • Scroll down and click Troubleshoot in the right-side panel

  • Click Other troubleshooters

  • Look for Network and Internet entry in the right-side panel and then click the Run option next to it

  • Now the Troubleshooter window will open
  • Choose Troubleshoot my connection to the internet
  • If the Troubleshooter finds any issue, click Apply this fix
  • If it doesn’t find any problem, choose Close the troubleshooter and move on the next solution

Solution #2 – Reset TCP/IP

In case there’s an issue with TCP/IP settings, then also you can encounter the Error 651.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Type command prompt in the Search bar, right-click Command Prompt in the search results, and select Run as administrator

  • Type the following command in Command Prompt and then hit Enter

  • Once this command has been executed, restart Windows, and check if the problem is resolved

Solution #3 – Disable IPv6

Some users have reported that disabling IPv6 worked for them, so giving it a shot is worth it. Since most connections do not require IPv6, disabling it will not impact your computer’s connectivity performance.

Follow these steps to disable IPv6 on Windows 11:

  • Click Win + R keys
  • Type ncpa.pl in the Run dialog box and hit Enter

  • In the Network Connections window, right-click your network adapter and select Properties

  • Scroll down inside the “This connection uses the following items” section, and uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and click OK

Now, try connecting your computer to the targeted connection and check if it’s working fine.

Solution #4 – Update your network drivers

For your computer to effectively communicate with a network and access the internet, you need up-to-date network drivers. If your network drivers aren’t up-to-date, you can encounter Error 651 and other connectivity-related issues.

Here’s how you can update the network drivers:

  • Type devmgmt.msc in the Search bar in the taskbar and hit Enter

  • Locate and expand Network adapters entry in the Device Manager window
  • Right-click the wireless adapter and select Update driver

  • Select the first option in the next window: Search automatically for drivers

  • Windows will scan the system to locate the latest network driver. If it finds an updated version, it will automatically install it

The other way to manually update the network driver is to go to the network adapter manufacturer’s website and search for the latest driver for your network adapter model. However, before you visit the manufacturer’s website, you’ll need to know the driver version that’s installed on your computer. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Open Device Manager and expand the Network adapters section
  • Right-click your network adapter and select Properties

  • Click the Driver tab and note down the driver version

If the manufacturer has released a new driver version, download it and save the file in a suitable location. Once the download is complete, double-click the driver installation file (it will have .exe file extension) and follow on-screen instructions.

After installation is complete, restart your computer and check if the issue is fixed. If not, try the next solution.

Just a quick word before you move on the next solution: Updating drivers manually can be tedious. Therefore, we recommend using a third-party tool such as Driver Updater. The beauty of this tool is that it automatically updates all outdated drivers with a single click in just a few minutes. Read the last section of the post to find out more about this amazing tool.

Solution #5 – Reset network settings

If none of the above solutions has worked for you, we recommend resetting the network settings as the last resort.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Type settings in the Search bar in the taskbar and hit Enter
  • Click Network & Internet in the left-hand panel

  • Select Advanced network settings in the right-side panel

  • Click Network Reset in the More Settings section in the right-side pane

  • Select Reset now

  • Windows will reset the network adapter and then restart

After Windows reboots, you should be able to connect to the internet.

How to Fix Minecraft Exit Code 1 in Windows?

By Susan C on March 10, 2025

How to Fix Minecraft Exit Code 1 in Windows?

Minecraft is one of the most popular games, but it is far from perfect. Despite Mojang Studios (Minecraft’s developers) best efforts, it’s not uncommon to encounter an error now and then while playing the game or at startup.

Sometimes Minecraft crashes with the “Exit 1” error, but fortunately the issue is easily resolvable. In this post, we have shared 5 most probable solutions to the Minecraft Exit Code 1 error. You don’t have to try all the solutions. Start from the first one and work your way down until the problem is fixed.

Solution 1 – Use the right mod version

If the Minecraft version that is installed on your system is not the same as the mod version, the Exit 1 error could occur. It’s important that all your mods are of the same version as the game you’re playing.

For instance, if the Minecraft version installed on your Windows computer is 1.20.6 while the mod version is 1.19.4, you may encounter the error. If this is the reason, manually update the mod to the latest version.

Before you update the mod version, check the Minecraft version. Here’s how:

  • Open Minecraft
  • Click Installation
  • You’ll see the Minecraft version in the Latest Release section

Next, perform these steps:

  • Press Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box
  • Type %appdata%
  • Click the OK button

  • Go to Minecraft>Mods in the Roaming folder

  • Check the version number of all the mods in the mods folder

Note: Go to the next solution in the list if all the mods are of the same version as the Minecraft installed on your Windows computer.

If a mod doesn’t have the same version number as the Minecraft game you have, replace it with the correct version. To do this, complete these steps:

  • Write down the name of the faulty mod
  • Open a web browser and navigate to CurseForge website
  • In the search field, type the faulty mod’s name and press Enter
  • Select the right mod in the search results
  • Switch to Files tab to see all available versions of this mod. Select the version that matches the version of Minecraft you’re playing
  • Click Download
  • Next, replace the fault mod with the newer version
  • Restart Windows and launch Minecraft’s

If the error persists, try the next solution.

Solution #2 – Update GPU drivers

Outdated GPU driver(s) can cause Exit Code 1 error. Therefore, it’s worth checking if you have the latest driver for your graphics card model, and if not, download and install the latest graphics driver.

To check the graphics card model and graphics driver version, follow the steps below. You’ll need this information to locate the right driver on the manufacturer’s website.

  • Type devmgmt.msc in the Search bar in the taskbar and hit Enter

  • In the Device Manager window, locate and expand Display adapters by clicking the arrow before it
  • You’ll see the graphics card model installed on your computer; note down this information

  • Right-click the graphics card and select Properties

  • Click the Driver tab and note down the driver version

  • Exit Device Manager

Next, go to the manufacturer’s website and search for the latest driver for your graphics model. Check if latest driver version available is the same as the one installed on your computer. If not, download it and save the driver file on the desktop or some other location.

Once the download is complete, double-click the .exe file to launch installation. Wait for installation to complete and restart Windows.

As you can probably guess, manually updating drivers is anything but easy. For this reason, we recommend using a third-party tool called Driver Updater. It is super-fast and reliable and the best part is that you can update your drivers with just a single click. More information about the software and a download link is shared at the end of the post.

If you already have the latest GPU driver, or if updating the driver doesn’t help, move on to the next solution.

Solution #3 – Change Java Runtime Executable path

Java is needed to run the game. Java Runtime Executable, or JRE for short, is automatically installed on your computer when you install Minecraft.

In case Java malfunctions, it could trigger Exit Code 1 error. What’s the solution? First, check if the Java Runtime Executable path is viable. To do so, perform these steps:

  • Open Minecraft Launcher
  • Go to its Java version
  • Click installation
  • Locate the Latest Release profile, click the three-dot menu, and select Edit
  • Use the Options drop down menu (in the Java Executable section) to select MORE OPTIONS (check the screenshot below) and then click Browse
  • Go to Java installation folder. The default folder is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1(version number)\bin
  • Select java.exe file and then click Open. In case there’s some issue with Java application, you’ll see the file is named as javaw.exe. Change the filename to java.exe
  • Click Save
  • Restart Minecraft and check if Error Code 1 is fixed

Solution # 4 – Reinstall Java

In case the last solution didn’t work, give reinstalling Java a shot. Reinstalling Java is not difficult at all. And doing so ensures corrupted files will get removed.

Uninstall the Java version installed on your computer using Programs and Features.

  • Type control panel in the Search bar in the taskbar and hit Enter
  • Select Small icons in the View by drop-down menu and then click Programs and Features
  • Locate the Java version, right-click it, and select Uninstall
  • Wait for the uninstallation to complete

Now, open a web browser window, navigate to the official Java website, and then download the latest version for your operating system. Once download is complete, install the software.

Solution # 5 – Change Minecraft Launcher path

If none of the solutions have worked for you, try changing Minecraft Launcher path. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Right-click Minecraft Launcher icon and select Properties
  • Look at the Shortcut section. At the end of Target field add this: “–workDir %ProgramData%.minecraft“
  • Click the Apply button and then click OK

Why use Driver Updater to update device drivers?

  • You can update device drivers automatically
  • The software scans and updates all outdated or missing drivers at one go
