Solution to Need for Speed pro Street game not working in Windows 8

By Sushant Mehta on February 4, 2014

When you try to run Need for Speed Pro Street game in Windows 8 it doesn’t run and you get the following error or one similar to it.

“Not compatible with the installed operating system”

This game is not compatible with Windows 8, and that’s why you are unable to run it in Windows 8 environment through the standard method.

Windows 8 is not compatible with many programs that were written for Windows 7 or previous Windows versions. However, most of these incompatible programs can still be run in Windows 8. This holds true for Need for Speed Pro Street game as well. To do this, you must install the game in Compatibility mode.

Perform the following steps to install Need for Speed Pro game in Windows 7 compatibility mode in Windows 8 environment.

  • Open your web browser, and navigate to the official website of the game’s manufacturer’s website
  • Locate and download the game and save it on the desktop
  • Press Windows + W on your keyboard
  • In the Start Search box, type compatibility and press Enter
  • From the list of options displayed in left, select “Run programs/applications made for previous Windows versions”
  • Select Need for Speed Pro game, and then install it

You can also change the compatibility settings through the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter. Perform these steps to run this application:

  • Open the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter window (If you use a mouse, point to the right corner at the top of the screen and then move the pointer down and click Search. Next, in the Start Search box, type program compatibility).
  • Click Settings
  • Click Run programs made for previous Windows versions

You can run most programs that were written for older versions of Windows in Windows 8 this way.

Windows 8 is much faster and more stable than previous versions of Windows. But its safety is in your own hands. We recommend you to download and install an advanced, robust, and light antivirus tool. Additionally, you must regularly download new updates for this program—you can automate this process if you want—and schedule regular virus scans. Further, every once in a while you should run a boot scan. Remember, boot scan usually takes an hour or more, so it is best you run it at night. Additionally, if you use a laptop, ensure that it has enough battery power to last the duration of boot scan or plug-in and then run the boot scan.

Fix borlndmm.dll error

By Sushant Mehta on February 4, 2014

Borlndmm.dll errors are not uncommon and can occur when you try to install or run a program or when you start or shut down Windows. The most common borlndmm.dll error messages are:

  • “The file borlndmm.dll is not found”
  • “borlndmm.dll is missing”
  • “This application could not load because borlndmm.dll is missing. Re-install the application”

While such errors can occur due to several different reasons, most commonly they occur when either of the following is true:

  • The file borlndmm.dll is not present
  • This or some other files are infected

Fixing a dll error, such as the ones mentioned above, is not difficult and can be easily done through the following steps.

Fix DLL Errors

Step 1 – Check whether the file is present

  • Click the Windows logo in your taskbar
  • Select Computer
  • Type ‘borlndmm.dll’ in the Search Comp.. box on the top right hand (the box with a magnifying glass symbol)

Windows will search the entire hard drive to check whether the file is present. If the file is present, proceed to the next step. If it is not, skip the following step and move to the 3rd step directly.

Step 2 – Download the dll file from an online DLL directory

  • Open your web browser
  • Navigate to a reliable and safe online DLL directory
  • Search for borlndmm.dll file, and download it
  • Save this file in C:WindowsSystem32
  • Register the dll file by running the regsvr32 borlndmm.dll command (Click the Windows icon, type run in the Start Search box, and then paste the above command in the Open box and press Enter)

Step 3 – Run a virus scan

Malware infection can cause all sorts of errors to occur, including borlndmm.dll error. If the file is present, you could be receiving the error because of infected files. To fix the issue and remove present malware, we recommend you to restart Windows in the Safe Mode and run full system scan. If currently no antivirus tool is installed, we recommend you to install a reliable and compatible antivirus software application as soon as possible.

You can launch Windows in the Safe Mode by performing the following steps:

  • Ensure that there are no open programs, and then click Restart in the Start menu
  • Press the F8 key as Windows loads to access the Advanced Boot Options menu
  • Select the first option, Safe Mode (use your keyboard arrow keys for selecting)
  • Press Enter

After you have booted Windows in the Safe Mode, open your antivirus program’s interface and click full system scan.

Sometimes, dll errors occur due to outdated, corrupt, or missing device drivers. The best way to fix these driver-related issues is to periodically run a driver scan on your computer using an advanced and fast driver tool. Such tools have the ability to not only identify all outdated, corrupt, or missing drivers, but also to fix them in matter of minutes.

Is it possible to play a Win-98 compatible game in Windows 7 or 8?

By Sushant Mehta on February 4, 2014

Users often ask, “Can I play a Win-98 compatible game in Windows 7 or 8?”

Playing old games in Windows 7 or 8 is a possibility. How easy or hard it is going to be depends on how old your favorite game is and whether you use a 32- or 64-bit operating system.

If the game you want to play was made specifically for Windows 8, you may well be able to play it in new operating systems. However, playing games that were launched before Windows 98 in certain new operating systems may prove mighty difficult if not impossible.

With Windows 95, Windows became 32-bit (originally it came only in 16-bit). All the latest Windows versions, including Win 8, are released in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. With some tweaking, you may be able to play a 16-bit game in 32-bit Windows 8, 7, or Vita. However, the choices are very limited for users with a 64-bit Windows 8, 7, or Vista.

To know whether you run a 32- or 64-bit Windows 8, perform these steps:

  • Click Search
  • Type System
  • Select Settings, and then System

Check out the information listed in the System field as the answer to your question lies there.

Similarly, users with Windows 7 can find the answer by clicking Start, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.

To run the file in a 32-bit Windows operating system, first right-click the executable file and then click Properties. Next click Compatibility, tick the box next to Run this program in the compatibility mode, and choose an appropriate option in the list before you.

If you use Windows 7 Ultimate or Professional (64-bit), to play an old game, you should install the Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode. This will allow you to run a copy of 32-bit XP operating system in a virtual environment. You can try running your game in XP mode here.

Sadly this option is not available to users with 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home, Vista, and Windows 8. Such users can install another free virtual machine program and run a copy of old Windows operating system in it.

Users with 64-bit version of Windows 8 Ultimate or Pro can create a virtual environment using the built-in Hyper-V. However, remember that you are also going to need a licensed copy of Windows XP.

The options vary from operating system to operating system and to a great measure depend on whether your operating system is 32- or 64-bits. However one thing remains the same across different windows operating systems: you must install a reliable, compatible antivirus tool to ward off security threats.
