  3. Open the Registry Editor

  1. Click Start
  2. Type devmgmt.msc in the Search box to open the Device Manager
  3. Go to Sound, video and game controllers group and expand it
  4. You should find an audio device listed, right-click on it and select Enable
  5. If there is no audio device installed, go to the Menu bar of Device Manager
  6. Click on Action > Add Legacy Hardware
  7. The Add Hardware dialog box will pop up, click Next
  8. In the next window, select “Search for and install hardware automatically”
  9. Click Next
  10. In the next screen, you will see several hardware types listed, select Sound, Video and Game Controllers
  11. Click Next
  12. In the next screen, select the manufacturer and model of your sound device

How to fix printer problems in windows 8.1?

By Sushant Mehta on April 25, 2016

In this post we will take a look at some common printer problems in Windows 8 and how to fix them. We have set out two common scenarios that you may experience and what steps you should take to address your Windows 8 printer issues.

Scenario 1-   You print a file. The printer starts makes some noise, the lights starts blinking and nothing prints

Scenario 2 – You print a file but nothing happens

The above mentioned scenarios are common and the reason for these problems varies from power failure to connectivity issues to a print spooler issue or wrong printer selection in the Operating System.  Let’s take a look at the troubleshooting steps one at a time.

Printer Drivers Download & Updates

Check the printer’s power connection

Make sure the printer is receiving power supply and there are no blinking lights on the printer which generally indicate a hardware issue.

Check for physical issues in printer

With most printers, you will see an amber light flashing if there is any problem with the printer. The problem can be a cartridge jam, paper jam, cartridge dried out, out of paper, or front and rear covers not properly closed.  Rectify any issue you find.

Check connecting cables

Remove connecting cables from both ends of the printer and connect them again. If the printer uses a USB connection, try connecting to a different USB port.  If the printer is connected through a network, find the IP address and try pinging to check the connectivity. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Move the mouse pointer to bottom left corner of the screen to launch the Charms bar
  2. Move the mouse pointer upwards and click Settings
  3. Click Devices and Printers
  4. You will see a list of installed printers. Right-click on the printer (for which you want to know IP address)
  5. Select Printer properties from the menu and not the Properties that is last in the menu
  6. In the Printer Properties window, go to Ports tab
  7. You will see a tick against the network printer in the list. You may see an IP near the printer name but that might not be the real IP, it might be the Port name
  8. Click Configure port
  9. You will now see the actual IP address of the printer in the IP address field
  10. Note down the IP address
  11. Go to command prompt through Search Charms
  12. Type “ping 00.00.00” where 00.00.00.00 is the IP address of the printer
  13. You should get a successful reply which indicates proper connectivity between the network printer and computer.

If the connection is fine, but the problem is not resolved, you can try restarting print spooler service by following the steps given below.

Restart the Print spooler service

  1. Go to Search Charms
  2. Type services.msc
  3. Open Services and locate Print Spooler
  4. If the Service Status mentions Stopped state,  click Start
  5. Select “Automatic” in Startup Type
  6. Click OK

Troubleshooting Guide – Windows 10 Does Not Go to Sleep

By Sushant Mehta on April 15, 2016

One of the more common issues faced by Windows 10 users is with the Sleep Mode function. Many users have complained of their PC being unable to go into Sleep Mode after upgrading to Windows 10. Below are some solutions that can resolve the Sleep Mode issue.

Solution 1- Checking Sleep Mode settings

  1. Click the Start button – > Select Settings
  2. Click System
  3. Click “Power & Sleep”
  4. Ensure the Sleep Settings has the desired values. For example, none of the Sleep Settings Values should be “Never”
  5. Click “Additional Power Settings”
  6. Click on Change Plan Settings
  7. Click Change Advanced Power Settings
  8. In the Power Options Screen, expand the Multimedia Settings
  9. Expand the option -> When sharing media and select “Allow the computer to sleep”
  10. Click Apply
  11. Click Ok

In most cases changing the Power Settings will resolve the Sleep Mode issue in Windows 10. If it doesn’t then you need to take a closer look at the Power Settings to see what is preventing Windows 10 from entering into sleep mode.

Solution 2 – Change Network adapter settings

You need to ensure the network adapter settings are not preventing your Windows 10 system from entering Sleep mode. Here are the steps you should follow.

  1. Click the Start button on the Desktop
  2. In Search box, type “Device Manager”
  3. Select Device Manager from the list of search results
  4. Go to Network Adapter
  5. Click “>” to expand the list
  6. Right Click on Network Adapter and select Properties
  7. In the Network Adapter properties window, go to the Power Management tab
  8. Uncheck the box “Allow this device to wake the computer”
  9. Click OK

If the above solution does not work, you will need to log into Safe Mode and see if the Sleep Mode issue persists. Here are the steps to boot Windows 10 system into Safe Mode

  1. Click the Start button on the Desktop
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Update & Security -> Recovery
  4. Under Advanced Startup, click Restart Now
  5. After the PC restarts, you will get a few options on the screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart
  6. After your PC restarts, Press F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode
  7. Try to recreate the issue and see if the system is able to enter into Sleep mode
  8. Try unplugging all USB devices and see if this resolves the issue

Windows 10 receives regular updates and Microsoft releases updates to fix various performance issues. You can contact Microsoft and explain to them in detail about Windows 10 not going to Sleep Mode or post your issue in the comments section below.
