Three reasons why you must clean Windows registry

By Sushant Mehta on January 22, 2013

Often users ask, “What is registry and why it is so important?” Think of registry as a huge database that stores all kind of information related to your computer’s settings, software programs, files etc. For nearly everything that you do on your computer, such as opening an excel file, changing your computer’s settings, launching your web browser, etc., your registry is referred to. Simply put, without it, Windows cannot do a thing.

Important and smart as it is, registry has one major shortcoming, it cannot prune redundant information stored by itself. To do that, it needs your help. Cleaning registry is a simple task and can be completed by a press of a button if you use an advanced registry cleaning software. By now, you might be wondering the following;

  1. What is a registry cleaner?;
  2. Why does registry gets filled with redundant information in the first place?; and
  3. What do I get by cleaning registry?

A registry cleaner is a software solution that uses an advanced algorithm to identify and remove unwanted data from registry. Registry of a new PC is compact, but as you use your computer, unnecessary information inflates it. Some of the more common causes for a bloated registry are:

  • Incomplete uninstallations
  • Installation of software packages
  • Temporary data
  • Malware infection

Coming to the third question, what do you gain by cleaning registry, the answer is a lot. A cleaner registry means:

  • A faster PC
  • Fewer runtime, DLL, ActiveX, and drivererrors
  • Fewer system crashes or dreaded blue screen of death errors

How to Update Drivers in Windows 8

By Sushant Mehta on January 21, 2013

The technology keeps on getting better and better. Windows 8, a huge improvement over Windows Vista and considerably faster than Windows 7, is up for grabs now. Great as it may be, users must keep in mind some tasks that they must continue to perform. This includes regularly updating device drivers.

While the steps for updating drivers in Windows 8 are not much different from those in Windows 7, it does no harm to take a look at them once again.

Install Windows Updates
Windows updates often contain the latest updates regarding built-in device drivers (drivers that were preinstalled on your Windows 8 PC). Installing Windows updates regularly is a great way of keeping your drivers up to date.

Install the latest updates from the manufacturers’ website
Updating drivers manually is not very complicated, but can be very time consuming. To update a third-party device driver, logon to its manufacturer’s website, locate the driver there, and download it. (See step-by-step guides on our homepage)

Install the driver using device manager
Another way of updating drivers is by using a device manager. You can access the Device Manager from the Control Panel.

After you’ve opened the Device Manager, locate and double-click the hardware device whose driver you need to update. Next, select the Driver tab, click the Update Driver button, and then click Search automatically for update driver software.

We round off this post with a bit of healthy advice: if you don’t need to through all the hassle involved in the manual process, simply purchase a driver update tool. These programs tend to be fast and reliable and will keep your Drivers up-to-date, allowing you to concentrate on more important things.

How to Restore Your System To A Previous Setting In Windows 8

By Sushant Mehta on January 18, 2013

Windows 8, like its predecessors, comes with a built-in utility called System Restore that allows users to rollback Windows to a previous working state. This feature is immensely useful when your system suddenly starts behaving erratically and you don’t know the exact cause. In such situations, you can use system restore to rollback Windows settings to a previous state when things were running smoothly.

To restore Windows to a previous time and date, follow these steps:

  1. Type restore point in Start Search box
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Create a restore point
  4. Next, click the System Restore button in the System Properties dialog box
  5. Select a preferable restore point
  6. Click Next
  7. Click Finish

Windows will now reboot automatically.

While maintenance utilities, like System Restore, can reverse a potentially volatile condition, it is best that you take necessary steps to prevent Windows from becoming unstable in the first place. Malware infection is the most common reason for erratic PC performance. We recommend you to use an advanced antivirus software to ensure that your PC remains malware free.
