Tips on using System restore to fix a Windows 8 laptop or pc

By Sushant Mehta on December 20, 2013

System restore is one of the most important built-in features in Windows PCs. It allows you to roll back Windows to a previous time when everything was running smoothly, and often proves to be your best friend when all other efforts to mend an erratically-behaving PC fail.

A high percentage of PC issues occur when a recent change causes something to go awry. Other common causes of PC errors include malware infection and hardware failure. System Restore doesn’t hunt down and remove malware, nor does it fix damaged hardware. However, it can fix issues resulting from installation of new software or changes to critical Windows settings.

Use System Restore in Windows 8

You need to be mindful about the following two things before you use this feature:

  • Save all important unsaved data
  • You will not be able to use your computer while System Restore is running (the good part, however, is that the whole process doesn’t take more than a few minutes)

If you use touchscreen, to access System Restore, swipe in from the right edge of your screen and then tap Search. Next, type “Recovery” in the Search box, and then tap the Settings bar.

If you use a mouse, press down Windows Key and Q. This will open the Search box, where you need to type “Recovery” and then press Enter.

In the next window, select Open System Restore. Windows, by default, displays only the latest restore point.

Windows automatically creates a restore point when a significant change is made to your computer like when you install new software or a Windows update. Additionally, restore points are also created periodically irrespective of whether a big change occurs or not. To undo the most recent change made to your pc, select the latest restore point and then tap or click Finish.

If you wish, you can select “Choose a different restore point” instead of the default option. Click Next after selecting this option and then check the box “Show more restore points” to see all Restore points. Select a restore point here and tap or click Next and then Finish.

Useful as this tool is, its functionality is limited and does not extend to issues caused by malware infection. To rectify such issues, you need a robust and advanced antivirus tool. Without such a tool, your Windows 8 is an easy target for malware programs. So get one today and use it to run regular virus scans to ensure that no malware enters your PC, and, equally importantly, if a malicious program manages to enter, it is promptly detected and removed.

Steps for adding website bookmarks to your iPad or iPhone home screen

By Sushant Mehta on November 27, 2013

iPad and iPhone are great devices for browsing the web. With these two devices, catching the latest news or listening to your favorite online radio is a cinch. However, the one issue that is causes frustration with handheld devices is typing URLs manually.

Because of smaller screen size, typing URLs in an iPad or iPhone can prove a bit awkward. The good part, however, is that there is an easy workaround available. Most users spend the majority of their time on just a few websites. If this is true for you as well, why don’t you just bookmark your most-visited websites on your iPad or iPhone? If you do so, you would no longer have to type their URLs; you can open them by the simple press of a finger.

To add bookmarks on your iPad and iPhone, follow these steps:

  • Visit the website for which you want to a bookmark
  • Next tap the Share button (when you look at the bottom of your screen, you will see different icons are listed horizontally. Among the displayed icons there is one icon displayed as an arrow coming out of a page. This is the Share button, the one you need to click)
  • In the next screen, you will see nine icons arranged in 3 rows, 3 icons in each row. Select the middle icon of the middle row (the Add to Home Screen icon).
  • The next screen is the Add to Home page screen. Here, the selected site’s favicon will be displayed on the left-hand side. To its right will be a text field. The text in this field will appear as the description of the bookmarked web page on your home screen. You can go with the default description that appears on the screen or simply overwrite it with a description of your choice.
  • After you’ve sorted out the description, simply hit the Add button on the upper-right corner
  •  The selected website’s bookmark will appear in your iPad’s or iPhone’s home screen

Removing a bookmark is easier than adding it. Hold the icon of the website whose bookmark you want to delete until a cross appears on its top left-hand corner. Now simply tap the cross and then tap Delete.

Bookmarks, whether in a mac or ipad or iPhone, helps you quickly access a website. And that’s the main reason why we use them. Speeding up performance is also the reason why mac optimization software is so popular. You should consider using one if your mac is old and running more slowly than usual.

How to fix iframework.exe error in XP

By Sushant Mehta on November 19, 2013

iframework.exe is a safe process and is part of the the Intel PRO/Set Wireless software. It provides additional configuration information for its software and also installs an icon in the system tray. Usually it is located in C:Program FilesIntelWebsiteBin.

This process by default starts automatically every time a user starts his or her computer. If, for some reason, you don’t want it to launch itself automatically, you can remove it from the list of your startup programs. You can do this by running the msconfig command and then deselecting the relevant entry under the Startup tab.

The following is the most common ifrmewrk.exe error reported by XP users:

“ifrmewrk.exe – Application error
The instruction at “0x023a9d042 referenced at “0x001c0000”
the memory could not be “read”.”

Clicking the OK button is followed by temporary disappearance of the Start menu and desktop icons.

Why does this error occur?

In most cases, if not all, this ifrmwrk.exe error occurs when any of the following is true:

  • ifrmwrk.exe is trying to write in a part of your system’s memory that has been allocated to some other process
  • Malware has infected your computer
  • Memory cells are permanently damaged

To resolve the error, you must perform the steps listed below in order of their appearance.

Identify and disable the conflicting startup entry

  • Click the Start button in the taskbar
  • Next, click Run
  • In the Open box, now type msconfig and press the Enter key to open the System Configuration dialog box
  • Click Startup
  • Deselect all entries except the one related to the your security software
  • Click Apply to save the changes and then click OK
  • Click Restart in the dialog box that appears on your screen
  • Upon restart, check whether the error is still there
  • In case no error is reported, check the box before the first entry in the Startup list
  • Save your changes and restart Windows
  • If you don’t get an error, select all listed entries in the Startup list one by one in a chronological order until you get the error. By selecting entries in this way you can easily identify the culprit, which will be the last entry you selected.
  • Once you have identified the conflicting entry, deselect it.
  • Save your changes by clicking the Apply button.
  • Restart Windows.

Scan your computer for malware

If the error still persists, chances are your pc is infected with malware. To remove it, scan your entire computer using an advanced antimalware program. If you don’t use one or if your current subscription has expired, we recommend you purchase a compatible, robust, and super-fast antimalware tool.

Check whether the memory cells are damaged or not

To check if your memory cells are functional, download and run a memory test program. If the test results are negative, you will need to purchase and install a new RAM.
