How to fix error code 107

By Sushant Mehta on August 13, 2015

Error code 107 is related to access of https sites from the browser. It is a generic error and might be accompanied by a distinct error message describing the scenario and the components related to the error.

Causes of Error Code 107

There can be several causes for the HTTPS traffic getting blocked by your computer. Some of these reasons relate to the proxy server rule, local firewall, parental lock system, or DMZ/edge firewall rule. If you’re using a router, it is advisable to check the security policies being applied to the connection through the router.

Before proceeding to look at solutions to fix error 107, you need to ensure that you have installed all updates for your Windows system and also have the latest Chrome browser. Older versions of Google Chrome are known to give error 107 at random times.

Solution to Error Code 107 on Chrome

Error code 107 is an “SSL connection error”, which basically means your browser is not able to create a secure connection to the server. The following error is displayed:

Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error.”

The reason might be with the server or your computer not having a client authentication certificate that is required to make a secure connection with the server.

To resolve the issue, follow the steps set out below

  1. Click Options
  2. Scroll down and look for Show advanced settings and click it
  3. Under Network, click the Change Proxy settings button
  4. Go to the Advanced tab, Check the following boxes: Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0
  5. Restart the browser

If the above solution doesn’t resolve the error, you need to ensure your antivirus is not the cause. Some users have reported that Norton antivirus conflicts with Google Chrome and can lead to error 107.

If you have Norton Antivirus installed on your system, try uninstalling it and see if error 107 is still generated. Disabling the antivirus is not going to help; you need to uninstall Norton antivirus completely and check your system to rule out the possibility of Norton antivirus causing this error.

If Norton antivirus is not the cause of the issue, check the registry for any errors. Download a good registry cleaner and scan the registry for any inconsistencies. The registry cleaner will remove unnecessary registry entries, allowing your system to run more efficiently.

How to free up space on an iPad or iPhone?

By Sushant Mehta on August 4, 2015

If you use your iPad or iPhone for music, photos or other media storage, you may have seen the message “Not enough space. You can manage your storage in Settings”. The only solution to such an error is to free up space on the device. Let’s look at how best to do this.

What is using up the storage on your iPad or iPhone?

Before you start deleting photos or apps in order to free up space, it is a good idea to check the storage usage of different applications to identify the real culprits. To see apps and their storage consumption, follow the steps below:

  • Open Settings
  • Go to General > Usage

You will see the storage section. The listing is in order of space used from highest to lowest so the apps that occupy more storage space are listed first. Note down the apps that can be removed to free up space.

If you use Deezer or other streaming services, you may notice that such apps seem to be using an inordinate amount of data. Considering most music is streamed through these apps, and not downloaded, this should not be the case. As a workaround you can try going into the app and logging out and logging in again or if this doesn’t work, delete the app and then download it again.

Remove unwanted apps

We are all guilty of downloading free apps and then forgetting all about them. Most apps take up a relatively small amount of space but when you add up all these free (or paid) apps, you will be surprised how much valuable storage space they may be taking up. Check for any apps that you don’t use and uninstall all of them.

  1. Go to the Home screen
  2. Find the icon of the app that you want to remove
  3. Press and hold the app icon for a few seconds. All apps icons will wobble and a small cross will appear on every app icon (apart from those that cannot be removed such as photo app)
  4. Tap the cross on the app icon you want to remove
  5. When asked for confirmation to delete the app, tap on Delete

Similarly you can also delete games that you do not play anymore. This can free up a lot of space, particularly if game data has been stored on your device.

Delete Unwanted Music

An audio file can take up a few KB or MB of space. If you have a big collection of songs on your iPad or iPhone, you may need to perform a cull every once in a while. You can selectively delete songs that you don’t listen to.

  1. Open the Music App
  2. In song list view, swipe from right to left on any song to delete it

If you are loathe to delete any music files then you can concentrate on the video files which take up a lot more space.

Delete Videos from iPhone or iPad

Videos occupy quite a bit of storage space. You can free significant amounts of space by deleting unwanted videos. To do so:

  1. Open the Video app
  2. In the list view, swipe from right to left on any video to delete it

Delete Photos or sync with iCloud/ iTunes more often

With digital photo technology readily available we tend to take multiple photos with a view to editing later on. The fact of the matter is that people rarely do this editing and masses of duplicate photos end up taking up valuable space, whether on the device or in cloud storage. It is important to develop a habit of editing and culling photos frequently. You can do this directly on the device or after syncing to iPhoto or whatever program you use on your mac or PC.

When you sync your photos to your computer or cloud storage, make sure you delete the originals from your iPad or iPhone after ensuring that the copy is safely uploaded to dropbox, iCloud or whatever storage system you use.

If you don’t want to delete any music files, videos or photos, you can also transfer them to cloud storage and then delete them from your iPad.

The best way to keep you device clutter free is to do regular housekeeping and don’t let unused apps or media take up valuable storage space

How to use Twitter and get followers?

By Sushant Mehta on July 28, 2015

Twitter is a great micro-blogging platform, but getting followers on it is not that easy. However, you can make short work of it using the following tips:

Post great content on Twitter

Content is King (it always has been)! Users consume content on every social media platform and Twitter is no different. Always keep your tweets short, relevant, and of course – interesting.

If you are sharing something written by another user or brand, include the user’s or brand’s name in the tweet. This will ensure that more people see your tweet. Incorporating visual content in your tweets is another great idea. Visuals usually have a higher impact by translating into better visibility and more retweets. And, of course, don’t forget to tag users in your photos.

Write a professional bio for Twitter

A professional bio is your introduction on the social media platform. And like all introductions, your introduction on Twitter should be strong and impressive, so that others decide that following you is worth their while.

The bio should focus on what you do and not tell who you are. Use action verbs like you use in resumes. For example, instead of telling others you are creative, mention what you did in your previous projects and, more importantly, what were the results of your efforts.

Stay active on Twitter

Your active participation on Twitter is extremely important. The more active you are, the higher the chances of people finding you and subsequently following you. But don’t overdo it. Tweeting too frequently and about everything under the sun will soon turn followers off. Always remember that to get more followers, you should minimize the number of people who unfollow you. It will time and analysis to strike a balance on how often you should tweet, and the optimum time of day for Tweeting.

In addition, look closely at who retweets your updates. Thank them and strike up a conversation with them, answering any questions they may have. This will help you connect with your most ardent followers.

Use Twitter hashtags

One of the advantages of using hashtags is that any phrase or symbol with the # symbol before it, then becomes a link. Hashtags also ensure the phrase or word shows up in the twitter search. It helps the user find and follow a topic easily. Hashtags can be used at the start, middle or end of your tweet. Don’t use too many hashtags as this can be counterproductive.
