502 Bad Gateway error occurs not because something is wrong with your pc. Instead it happens due to some problem with the website server.
Every website can customize how the error appears in users’ web browser. Some common ways this error is described are as follows:
- 502 Service Temporarily Overloaded

There are more than a one reason why this error can occur. For instance, you can get the 502 Error when the website that you are trying to access is swamped with requests. Another reason could be that the domain name might not resolve to correct IP address. You can also get this error when you cannot reach the web server or when it is down. Some users have said that they received the error because their firewall blocked the communication. Further, some got the error because the server’s configuration was broken.
In the end, whatever the root cause, the problem basically occurs because the web server could not fulfill a genuine request.

Solution 1 – Reload
This is the first thing you should do if you are getting the 502 error. You can reload a web page by pressing Ctrl + F5 or simply F5 a minute or two after you received the error.
Solution 2 – Use a VPN, DNS server or Web Proxy
In case you can access a VPN or web proxy, try to connect the site through them. Similarly if you can access a 3rd party DNS server, you should give it a go as well. You might be able to get around the error using a DNS or VPN or web proxy.
Solution 3 – Use Caches
It is possible that corrupted or outdated files stored on your browser can lead to 502 error. Therefore clear the cache and check if that fixes the issue.
Chrome users can perform these steps to clear cache:
- Click the three vertical dots on the top right hand side of your Chrome browser and click More tools
- Then click Clear browsing data
- You can select a time range at the top. If you want to delete everything, simply choose All time
- Now check the boxes next to “Cached images and files” and “Cookies and other site data”
- Finally click Clear data
Solution 4 – Start Your Browser in Safe Mode
Last but not the least, try running your browser in safe mode. Many users have said that this trick worked for them, so it’s worth a try. When you run a browser in safe mode, it runs with default settings, without any extensions or add-ons.
