After running a Windows 10 update or upgrading to Windows 10, you may find that the system refuses to detect TV. Many users have complained of facing this issue. The good news is that you can fix the issue with the solutions shared in this post.
The first thing you must do is make sure there’s no issue with HDMI port or the cable.
Unplug your TV and then plug it back to the HDMI port. Now, see if the issue is fixed.
Use another HDMI cable and check if that fixes the problem.
In many a case, the culprit was a broken or worn HDMI cable. If there’s no issue with cable or the HDMI port, we recommend try the two solutions mentioned below in the order they appear.
First Solution – Check your display output settings
If the display output settings are incorrect, the connected pc or laptop may not be able to detect the TV. Here are the steps you need to perform to check.
- Right-click the desktop, and then click Personalize
- Now click Display
- Check whether the TV is appearing as the second monitor
In case you’re unable to see the TV on this screen, perform the steps shared ahead:
- Simultaneously press Windows logo key + P
- Now click Duplicate
- Switch to Extend if the step given before doesn’t work
- Now check if Windows is able to detect the TV
Second Solution – Update your graphics driver
It is very much possible that the cause of the error is some problem with your graphics driver. This usually happens when you don’t have the graphics card manufacturer’s driver but a generic one. You can solve the problem by getting the latest driver for the video card.
So how does one update the video card driver?
You can do this manually or automatically. The first step is tedious and complicated while the second one is as easy as one-two-three.
Update driver manually
Go to the video card manufacturer’s website, located the latest driver, and download it. Make sure that you download the driver that’s for your Windows system. For instance, if you use a 32-bit Windows 10, download a driver for 32-bit Windows.
Once you’ve downloaded the driver, double-click the installer file (it will be an .exe file) to install the driver. You may have to reboot Windows after installing the driver.
Update driver automatically
Download DriverDownloader and install it and register yourself. That’s it, the software will automatically update the video card driver, and other outdated drivers.
