Seize cars of speeders

Two serious crashes and a rash of road racing offences in Ontario, Canada, in recent weeks have prompted Ontario Provincial Police commissioner Julian Fantino to call for seizure of the cars of speeders going over 50 Km/hr (30 mph) on Ontario roads.

In one of the crashes a 15-year-old driving a stolen car crashed into a taxicab, killing two teenage girls. In another just a week or so later, racing drivers caused a truck to jackknife and overturn on highway 400, killing the driver. Then, despite the public furore over the two tragedies, hardly another week had passed when two U.S. drivers were caught driving their corvettes more than 200 km/hr (125 mph) on the same highway.

Now commissioner Fantino is pushing for aircraft surveillance support of the tough seizure rule he proposes. He says it won't be hard to convince the Ontario public of the value of the measure in saving lives. End of Article

Once again prosecution without representation. Nobody wants to see anyone die in a car accident that could have been prevented. Slow drivers are just as much at fault and many cause these accidents. But if I'm speeding down the 401 at 2:30 in the morning and there's nobody on the road except me, a kid in a stolen car and a cop and I'm pulled over and lose everything. Typical cops. go out and catch the real criminals and let me pay the fine.

Speeding is not a crime, a crime requires a victim. Commie thieves with badges!

From what I know here in Chicagoland, cars can be taken by the govt for high-speed reckless eludes and if the auto is used in drug selling.

In Germany, the parts of the Autobahn with no speed limits at all seem to work well...except for the odd high-speed pileup due to stupid driving by a few who know how to put their foot down but not how to drive in high-speed traffic.

You can't stop speeders. There should be a limit on the top speed of cars, for example using 'governors' like we used to have on trucks years ago.

It would be interesting to know the driving conditions under which the Corvette drivers were caught. If they were near traffic they should have the book thrown at them.

They should seize cars of the slow left lanedrivers too.
