Drunk driving and phone use: study irresponsible

Britain's Royal Auto Club says comparison of cell-phone use with drunk driving is irresponsible. The study by the UK Transport Research Laboratory measured the reactions of drivers talking on cell phones against the reactions of drivers just over the legal alcohol limit. The RAC says that the comparison could undermine safety campaigns against drunk driving by reducing the stigma of driving while drunk. "The interpretation of this research …is dangerous and irresponsible," says Edmund King, executive director of the RAC's campaign arm, the RAC Foundation.

"Drivers who get behind the wheel after drinking are more likely to take risks. They have no perception of the risks involved, since alcohol impairs judgement," King added. Read the Ananova article
