Gasoline wars featured on the web

It had to happen. Gasoline prices are an emotionally charged issue and it was only a matter of time before they inspired a web site providing information to motorists on where to find the best bargain at the pumps.

Unfortunately, the area surveyed by GasolineWars.com is confined to southern British Columbia, Canada. Perhaps, though, the "enterprising" individuals behind the idea will consider expanding their geographic horizons. The word "enterprise" applies in more ways than one since the guys or gals apparently at the helm go under the pseudonyms of Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty, and Bones.

The interactive site (drivers are encouraged to submit information on prices) lists the top 10 gas station locations with the lowest reported prices in the Greater Vancouver regions together with the prices by region and by gas station retailer. A map represents the boundaries covered by Gasoline Wars, and clicking on a region displays a detailed listing of gas prices for that region.

Gasoline Wars features a discussion forum on the gas industry covering topics such as technology, marketing, delivery of services and, of course, pricing. In addition, the site provides traffic and weather reports for the region together with daily stories on the petroleum and automobile industries gathered from international newswire sources.

Not unsurprisingly, a disclaimer says the site is "not affiliated with any gasoline retailers or their suppliers."

The existence of such as site as Gasoline Wars may raise more than a few eyebrows among European drivers, who would probably salivate at the opportunity to fuel their cars at North American prices. But, as we mentioned, this is a highly emotional issue.

So, fill her up, Scotty, and let's warp out of here.
