Xbox One supports streaming of games on a Windows PC. This feature allows you to play Xbox games anywhere on your home network. If you have a Windows 10 PC and want to play Xbox games, follow the steps set out below to setup the Windows 10 PC and Xbox One for game streaming.
Step 1- Enable Settings in Xbox One
- Go to Settings
- Select Preferences
- Make sure the following settings are enabled
- Allow game streaming to other devices
- Enable the Smartglass Connection From any Smartglass device
Step 2 – Connect your Windows 10 PC to Xbox One
- On your Windows 10 PC, launch the Xbox app
- On the left-side panel, click Connect
The Xbox app will scan your home network for available Xbox One consoles.
- Select the name of your console in the list
Once you are connected, you will see options like power, streaming, and media remotes. You can now have the option to control the Xbox console remotely
Step 3- Start game streaming and playing
- To start streaming, click Stream once the Xbox console is connected
- To launch a game from the Xbox app, click Play from the console in the upper right-hand corner of the screen
The game will be launched on your Xbox console and the streaming starts automatically
- To change streaming quality, go to the Xbox app on your PC and click Settings
- Select Game Streaming
- Under the Video Encoding level, you will find different streaming quality settings
- High– Select this option if your Windows PC has a wired Ethernet connection or the Windows PC and Xbox console are in the same room and you are connected through a wireless connection
- Normal – Select this option if the wireless network is 5GHZ and the networked PC and Xbox console is in a different room
- Low– Select this options if the wireless network is 2.4ghz and the networked PC and Xbox console are separate
Note: you can always start with higher setting and reduce the streaming quality level until you get the best performance on the home network.
Tips for best gaming performance
If you want the best gaming performance, you may need to update the drivers and firmware of your PC. Follow the steps set out below to do this:
- On your Windows PC, press the Windows key
- Type Device Manager in the search box and hit Enter
- Select Network Adapters
- Right-click your wireless network adapter and select Update Driver software
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software
Note: Always put your Xbox Console and Windows 10 PC on the 5ghz wireless network for best gaming performance.
