A Bugcode USB driver error, also referred to as a blue screen error, occurs when a USB driver (the term USB is an acronym for Universal Serial Bus) causes a stop error. This error means that your PC has abruptly shut down to safeguard itself against potential data loss or corruption.

There are many reasons why this error occurs, but the good part is that a Bugcode USB driver error is often easy to resolve.

Run the FIX IT solution from Microsoft

You may be able to troubleshoot the error by downloading the FIX IT solution that is available on the Microsoft website. Run the solution after installing it to get rid of the error.

In case the error persists, we recommend you perform these steps in the order they appear here.

Adjust the power settings of your computer

The following two adjustments may help you to reduce the frequency of this error.

Deselect the USB selective suspend setting:

Open the Control Panel window, and then select System

In the System window, click Hardware

Click Device Manager

Double-click Universal Bus Controller to see all the listed devices

Click each USB Root Hub one by one and check the box before Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power (this option is available under the Power Management tab)

Check if a system BIOS update is available for your computer

Many manufactures have released BIOS updates to resolve such issues. It is possible that the manufacturer of your computer may have also released such an update. So contact the manufacturer’s website to see if a BIOS update has been released for the specific model that you are using.

Install the latest Drivers

In case you recently added a new device such as a USB hub, check if a driver update is available. Even when you have not installed a new hardware device, it is recommended that you install any driver updates available.

There are two ways of updating and installing new drivers. One is by using a reliable and fast driver update tool. Such tools offer you numerous advantages, such as:

Update your drivers quickly – When you use a driver update tool, you can update all your drivers at the click of a button.

Get only 100% genuine drivers – To install a driver manually, you need to download it from the manufacturer’s website. However if the required driver is not listed on the manufacturer’s website, you will need to get it from an online driver directory. The problem with this approach is that with free online driver directories you can never be sure about the source of the driver provided.

Schedule the application to perform driver updates at regular intervals – You can configure your driver update tool to run periodic checks and install any new drivers available. This, in turn, allows you to keep your drivers up to date, limiting the chances of experiencing driver-related issues.

The other method is to update drivers manually. Because it can be both tedious and time-consuming, we recommend you to use a driver update tool for updating drivers.

One of our users recently experienced the following, surprisingly common, problem:

“When I boot Windows, all I see is a blank desktop. There is no task bar or no icons are visible. I booted in Safe Mode and here everything appears as normal – what has caused this?”

Cause of blank desktop issue

We decided to post this issue, and the solution, as it seems to be experienced by more and more users. There are various reasons for this problem but the most common and likely cause is malware infection.

Solution to blank desktop issue

If the issue is due of malware infection, you can resolve it by running a virus scan using a trusted antivirus tool in the Safe Mode. It is advisable to run a malware check anyway as, if this is not the cause, it will at least rule it out.

In Firefox 13 and later versions, nine different websites thumbnails are displayed in 3×3 grids when you open a new tab. This feature, while useful, displays your browsing history to anyone working on your computer. If you are not comfortable with this open display of your browsing history, it is best that you disable this feature. Here’s how you can do it.

Method 1 – Remove the thumbnails temporarily

This method does not offer a permanent fix. But it is very easy to perform, and so is worth discussing here.

Open a new tab and click the symbol with 9 little squares (located in the upper right corner) to remove the thumbnails. The thumbnails now will no longer automatically appear every time a new tab is opened. To get the thumbnails back, simply click the symbol again.

Method 2 – Remove the thumbnails permanently

This method removes the thumbnails permanently.

In Firefox’s new tab, type about:config to access the browser’s configuration settings. Locate the browser.newtab.url entry (it is displayed under the search field), and double-click it. This entry, by default, is configured to about:newtab. Change this to about:blank and save your changes.

Thumbnails, which allow others to see your browsing history, are a privacy rather than a security issue. Malware programs, which can also disclose information present on your pc to others, on the other hand, are very dangerous. It is important that you keep yourself protected against such programs. The best way to do this is by using an advanced antivirus tool.

Many Windows 7 and Windows Vista users have complained of receiving Error 2753 when they try to install HP 3055 printer. Common as it is, the error is easily resolved. Read on for details on how to fix this HP printer error.

Cause

The error usually occurs when the installation script is unable to install the following two files:

Net Driver HPZ12 (C:\Windows\System32\HPZinw12.dll)

Pml Driver HPZ12 (C:\Windows\System32\HPZipm12.dll)

This usually happens when an improper version of these files is present in the System32 folder and the installation script is unable to overwrite them. Error 2753 may also occur when these files are partially installed and the printer installer is unable to overwrite them.

Solution

To fix the issue, perform the following steps;

Open Windows Explorer

Navigate to the System32 folder

Locate the HPZipm12.dll and HPZinw12.dll files.

Delete or rename these files

Install the HP printer again.

Printer errors can also occur when the printer driver is outdated. Because of this reason it is necessary that you regularly update your printer and other drivers. The easiest way of doing this is by using an advanced and reliable driver update tool.

There are many different driver error codes; some are not difficult to resolve, while others can prove a lot more troublesome, even the most technically proficient. Luckily error code 31 belongs to the easy-to-resolve category.

Error code 31 can occur with many hardware devices. However, it is most commonly seen with Ethernet cards. While irritating, error code 31 is not something you need to lose sleep over, because it can be quickly fixed by installing the latest Ethernet drivers.

Error Message

Each error code is accompanied with an error message, which may or may not correctly point to the cause of the problem. The error message that one receives with error code 31 is:

“This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31)”

How to see the error code 31 error message

Error code 31 is a device manager error code and, as such, is displayed in the Device status box, under the General tab in the device’s properties dialog box. In other words, a message on the desktop does not flash when this error occurs. To view error code 31, perform the steps listed below:

Click the Windows icon

Type devmgmt.msc in the Start Search box

Press Enter

Double-click Network adapters in the Device Manager window to view all the network devices installed (when a problem with a hardware device occurs, an exclamation mark, a question mark, or a yellow triangle is displayed beside it)

Double-click your Ethernet card

The error code 31 will be displayed in its Device status box

Why error code 31 occurs

The most common reasons are:

Missing drivers

Outdated drivers

Corrupt drivers

How to fix error code 31 Ethernet controller driver

To fix this issue, you must download and install the latest Ethernet controller drivers. The most effective and quickest way of updating Ethernet controller drivers is by using a reliable and compatible driver update application. Although you need to pay a subscription fee to use such applications, the good ones are worth their cost and are reasonably priced. To update drivers using such an application, all you do is download the software and follow the on-screen instructions. On the other hand, if you decide to update drivers manually, you need a follow a more involved process that involves the following steps:

Write down the details of your Ethernet card (you can find the details from the device manager window or from the box in which the Ethernet card came or from the Ethernet card itself)

Go to the manufacturer’s website

Search for the latest driver for your Ethernet card

If found (yes, you do not always get the required drivers on the manufacturer’s website!), download the drivers

Install the new Ethernet card drivers

Restart Windows

Many XP users experience problems with no sound in Windows even when a sound card is installed. This problem is not program-specific, if you are experiencing sound problems with just one program, then it is likely to be a settings issue with that program. More often than not, the root cause of multi-program sound loss, is missing or outdated sound drivers.

Sound drivers allow your operating system to recognize and work with the installed sound card. Sound-related issues occur when there is some problem with the sound card.

Before we discuss how to resolve such sound-related issues, let us take a look at the common situations in a Windows XP computer when problems are likely to occur due to one or other issues with sound drivers:

You’ve upgraded your computer to Windows XP, but not the sound drivers, and the previous sound drivers are incompatible with the XP operating system

You or some other program, such as a virus program, has deleted the driver files mistakenly or deliberately

You’ve installed a new sound card, but not the drivers present in the CD that came with the hardware device

There are other possible causes for sound drivers problems but most sound driver errors occur due to one of the above reasons.

To fix the issue of ‘no sound’ when a viable sound card is installed, you would need to update your sound drivers, a task that can be completed in four different ways.

How to update windows XP sound drivers

Windows Update

Download and install the latest Windows updates. Often updates related to built-in drivers can be found in new Windows updates. So there is every chance that the issue may get fixed after installing the latest updates. If, for some reasons, it doesn’t, move on to the next

Install drivers from the driver CD

If you’ve installed a new sound card, you might have received a CD with it. This CD is likely to contain drivers for the sound card. If you have not run the CD already, insert it into your CD/DVD ROM, and install the latest drivers from it.

Install drivers manually

Those who do not have a driver CD with them, or those who did not receive a driver CD, will need to download and install the drivers manually. Manual updating a driver can sometimes prove tricky, especially when you don’t find the required drivers on the manufacturer’s website.

Use a driver update application

Printers are fairly low-maintenance peripheral hardware devices as long as you regularly update their drivers. This is because most printer errors (this is true for Hewlett Packard printers too) occur due to issues with printer drivers. So, it wouldn’t be in any way incorrect to say that regular updating of HP printer drivers keeps your HP printer in good working order.

With the importance of updating HP printer drivers understood, let us take a look at two different methods through which you can update them.

How to update HP printer driver

Using a driver maintenance application

The fastest way to update HP printer drivers is by using a reliable and advanced driver update tool. With a good driver update tool you can update your HP printer drivers with just a few mouse clicks.

Updating drivers manually

If you wish, you can also update your HP printer drivers manually. This process, however, can be considerably more time-consuming and tedious than the former.

To update HP printer drivers manually, perform the following steps:

Note down the details of your HP printer

Open your web browser and log on to HP official’s website

Search for the latest drivers for your HP printer

If found, download and install them

We mentioned above that most HP printer errors occur due to driver-related issues which can be fixed and prevented by updating HP printer drivers. However, some HP printer drivers occur due to other reasons. Let us take a look at two such errors and their solutions.

Fix HP Printer e8 error

HP users have claimed following steps fixes the e8 error.

Turn off your HP printer

Disconnect the power cord

Reconnect the power cord and turn on your HP printer after 30 seconds

The error should not occur again.

Fix HP Printer 79 error

This error usually occurs with HP LaserJet 2605dn printers. The “79 error” is a critical Firmware error. To fix the issue, you must download the Firmware and then reinstall it. The Firmware should be available on the HP official website. So log on to it, locate the Firmware, download it, and reinstall it.

It is possible that the said errors may not be fixed using the steps listed here. If this happens to you, we recommend you contact HP Support. Alternatively, you may search for a solution on our PC support forum.

Some Windows XP users have complained about Windows automatically signing them out after a few minutes of inactivity.

Unlikely as it seems, this issue usually occurs because of screensaver settings. To correct the problem, perform the steps detailed below:

Right-click on an empty area on your desktop

Choose Display Properties

Click Screen Saver

Increase the time listed in the Wait field

Deselect the box before On resume, password protect if you don’t want windows to ask for a password each time you exit the standby mode

Click the OK button to save your preferences

Since the release of Windows XP, Microsoft has released three new versions, each better than the previous one. However, many users are comfortable using Windows XP only and choose not to upgrade. For such users, there is some good news: they can run Windows XP virtually, inside Windows 7 or Windows 8. This is made possible by Windows Virtual PC, a free application.

Whether you use older or newer Windows versions, you must protect it from malware and hackers. The best way of doing this is by installing a reliable and fast antivirus tool and keeping it up-to-date.

Email clients can be put into two categories—online and offline. MS Outlook 2010, like Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail belong to the latter, while Gmail and Yahoo! mail are examples of online email. Offline email clients connect to email servers and allow you to save your email messages on your hard drive. Saving your emails on your hard disk enables you to transfer them to another computer. Another advantage of backing up your emails is that it prevents data loss in case MS Outlook encounters a serious problem.

To back up MS Outlook 2010 email, perform the steps detailed below:

Open MS Outlook 2010

Browse to the File menu, click Options, and then click Export

Select export to a file, and then click the Next button

Choose Outlook Data File (.pst), and then click the Next button

Select your email folder and tick the box before Include subfolders, and then click Next

Select the location where you want to save your emails (it is best if you save your emails to a different hard drive)

Click the Finish button

Besides backing up MS Outlook emails, there are many others PC maintenance tasks that you must perform regularly. If you don’t have the time for these activities, invest in a reliable PC optimization tool, which keep your PC in prime condition all the time.

In most versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7, the hibernation mode, inexplicably, is not activated by default. However, it can be still accessed if you want to. Let’s learn how.

To use the hibernate mode, you need to deactivate hybrid sleep first. As long as it is present, Windows will not offer you the hibernation mode option.

To do this in Windows 7, perform these steps:

Open Control Panel

Click Power Options

Click Change Plan Settings

Click Change advanced power settings

Locate and Expand Sleep, and then expand Allow hybrid sleep

Change the settings to Off

Click Apply and then click OK

The Hibernate option will now appear in the Shut down menu.

To do this in Windows 8, perform these steps:

Open Control Panel

Click Power Options

Click the Choose what the power buttons do option, located in the left panel

Activate the Change settings that are currently unavailable option

In the Shutdown Settings box, select the Hibernate option

Save the changes

The Hibernate option will now appear in the Shut down menu.

Whether you use Windows 7 or 8, you must turn on all present security features. In addition, you must use a reliable third-party antivirus tool.
