A case of road rage - need advice

Discussions: Aggressive Driving (+ Road Rage): A case of road rage - need advice
   By a1984 on Sunday, July 02, 2006 - 03:42 pm:

Hi! I was driving in the right lane of a two-lane road and cut in front of a person in the left lane. He got angry and started honking at me. I showed him the finger. He turned on his high beam and proceeded to follow me home. He was following too closely; when I was turning into my street he even had to break hard. Once I got home and got out of the car we had a heated discussion about each other's driving skills, he called me a motherf---r and left.

I do admit to showing him the finger (that was not very smart of me), but still he was way out of the line following me home. Can I complain to the police and get him warned or something?

The police vary by jurisdiction as to their responses to these things, but you might try that.

Mainly, though, if this ever happens again that someone follows you maliciously, DO NOT DRIVE HOME. Then they know where you live, and if they are psychotic, can burn down your house etc.

The best thing is to drive, slowly, to a police station. Even drive into their parking lot if they have one. Also, you can go somewhere very public, like a mall, but that is less safe.

Its very difficult not to be confrontational towards agressive drivers. Just remember that they are already ramped up and you only give them the greenlight with any kind of reaction - and you might be in for something you didnt bargain for. Even when somebody deserves a good flipping off- dont do it! Dont look at them and just get out of the way. Forget your pride. Your safety might be at stake.
