Ohio--Amish Country

Driving route map Twisty roads, lots of antique shops, Amish food, handmade quilts, and Amish furniture will hold your attention on this route. It will take you several hours to drive through the largest Amish settlement in the United States, nestled among the rolling hills of this part of Ohio.

The drive starts in Coshocton, Ohio, where on the west side of Rte. 16 is the must see historic restored Roscoe Village. It is full of quaint houses, shops, great candy, and an ice cream parlor. Leave Roscoe Village and head east on Rte. 16. In less than a mile, head north on Rte. 83 to Millersburg, the county seat of Holmes County, the heart of the Amish farms and communities. Out of Millersburg, follow Rte. 39 east as you wind past Amish farms and horse-drawn farm equipment and buggies. In the Amish community of Walnut Creek, go north on Rte. 575 to Winesburg, which is filled with shops selling Amish wares and food.

Once you've taken in the sights at Winesburg, continue east to Wilmot where you pick up Rte. 250 and change direction to a northwesterly route. You may want to try some of the fine Amish food in Wilmot at the Amish Door Restaurant before you leave. From here your Amish drive takes you to the Mt. Eaton area and County Road 52, which will lead you to Kidron, the home of Lehman's Hardware. This store is like none other anywhere in the country because it sells everything from kerosene appliances to horseshoes that the Amish need for day-to-day life without electricity. This drive through the Amish country of Ohio offers scenery and Points of Interest for all ages along with the best home cooking (especially pies) that you have ever eaten.
