In the old days kids used to draw Ferraris on their notebooks. Now they can own a Ferrari notebook computer. Acer America Corporation, which happens to be an official supplier to Scuderia Ferrari, has introduced the Ferrari 3200, a second-generation notebook that features a Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor. According to its maker (which might be biased) the notebook follows the "tradition of elegance, design and cutting-edge technology that, over the past year, has been the hallmark of the synergies between Acer and Ferrari."
In addition to the Athlon processor, the Ferrari 3200 offers ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics with 128MB of dedicated DDR memory. The 64-bit architecture of the Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor delivers leading-edge 32-bit performance and provides a taste of the performance gains promised by future applications. In addition, the AMD PowerNow! technology extends battery life while HyperTransport technology radically improves multitasking. Best of all, the whole package is wrapped in a Ferrari red chassis that's nothing at all like your father's notebook computer.
"The Ferrari 3200 maintains the same innovative look and feel of its predecessor while raising the performance bar which was set with our original Ferrari notebook," says Maarten de Haas, vice president, notebook business unit, Acer America. "This is a system that laps the competition and looks good doing it."
In addition to wireless 802.11g, the Ferrari 3200 offers four USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire (IEEE 1394) port, FIR (fast infrared), Giga LAN connection, 56K V.92 modem, S-video output and Bluetooth support. It incorporates up to a 80GB ATA/100 removable hard drive, DVD Super-Multi (DVD +/- RW, - RAM) optical drive and 4-in-1-card reader for optional MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital card, SmartMedia card or Memory Stick. A high-capacity Li-ion battery delivers up to four hours of battery life. It's preloaded with Microsoft Windows XP Pro and weighs 6.5 pounds, considerably less than the Ferrari Enzo or the late Enzo Ferrari for that matter. It is available through Acer authorized resellers and retail outlets throughout North America starting at approximately $1999 plus tax and license.
