U.K.'s top law officer busted at 99 mph

· Date: 2003-01-09

As Britain's Solicitor-General, Labor Member of Parliament Harriet Harman, 52, is the first woman to hold the post, which makes her one of the most senior law officers in the country. She said she is "mortified" about being caught driving at 99 mph (30 mph over the 70 mph speed limit) on the M4 motorway near Bristol on January 8. She was driving her son back to Bristol University after the Christmas break. Harman said she is very sorry and recognizes she should have paid more attention to the speed she was traveling at. She will plead guilty to the charges at the first available opportunity.

However, she is not the only high ranking member of government to be caught speeding way over the limit, reports the London times. Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has four speeding convictions. The most recent was in 1997 when he drove at 80mph on a 30mph section of an icy M62 motorway. Read the Times article End of Article

I think that this is so dumb. Police officers spend so much time to enforce the laws, and then they dont practice what they preach. It goes to show you that even the police officers could care less sometimes. I'd rather be late and alive then to be dead and not show up. Sometimes people are so careless, but this situation makes me mad because this woman know the effects about car accidents and blows it off like she doesnt have a single brain cell. People need to think about their actions, before they follow through with them.
