Forget acts of kindness at intersections, says writer

You're turning left, waiting for an oncoming car to pass. But the oncoming driver stops and waves you through. A nice gesture? Not for auto writer David Dehaas. It's an offer Dehaas is not going to accept, and it's not about driving etiquette or the rules of the road he says. "It is that I do not want to turn left in front of an idiot."

"This conclusion is based entirely on the principles of defensive driving," writes Dehaas in a recent national Post article. "As a responsible driver, acting on the available evidence, I conclude that turning in front of you would not be safe. The fact is you did not go when it was your turn to go, when, under a close reading of the Highway Traffic Act, it was not just your option, but your obligation, to go. Instead, you chose to try to initiate a personal relationship with me by cloyingly insisting I go first." Read Dehaas's National Post articleEnd of Article
