Green lights are good, but flashing greens … ?

You're a driver waiting at a red light Toronto, Canada and it changes to green--but it's also flashing. What does it mean? What's the message? If you're a Toronto resident you'll know that the flashing green means the oncoming traffic still have a red light and you can make a left turn before they move away. If you're a tourist, you may be puzzled.

The flashing green light allowing left turns has been used on the Toronto area for decades but it's not widely used throughout North America, and if it is used elsewhere, it may not have the same meaning. It can be quite confusing, however, as a recent article in the Toronto Star newspaper explains, the lights are changing in more ways than one. Soon, flashing greens may be a thing of the past.End of Article
