Red light cameras can be lenient

Maybe what REALLY bothers drivers about red light cameras is what they believe
is the near-certainty of getting caught and convicted. However, West Hollywood,
a suburb of Los Angeles, rotates cameras between 16 major intersections and
collects about 3,000 pictures of likely violators each month. About half are
issued tickets. Reasons red light runners may not be tagged range from poor
lighting to sun glare blocking driver identification. Nevertheless, the cameras
deter red light runners and reduce crashes. L.A.
