South Korean Cabbies win back their dash TVs


According to a BBC report , cab drivers in South Korea can continue to watch TV on their dashboard screens after a cab driver successfully fought a $500 fine imposed by local authorities.

Drivers have been using the TVs to relieve the boredom of stop and go traffic congestion. The TVs use a digital broadcasting system launched in 2005 which can be broadcast to mobile screens.

Last year, city authorities in the capital city of Seoul passed a regulation banning TV use in the front seat of taxis. Judges threw out the regulations based on the fact that they were based on an old 1961 law that was no longer in effect.

According to safety authorities, TV was a factor in 200 driving accidents last year in which three people were killed and 351 injured.

Police will now fall back on careless driving and distracted driving laws. End of Article
